I can attest to the awesomeness of the road from Taos, NM to Angel Fire, NM. The family has a getaway spot out there and that road is amazing! Haven't gotten around to tackling it on the bike yet, but the Rx-7 carves that road like a well cooked turkey! Truly astounding scenery as well. Keep your eyes on the road though. Plenty of little rocks and such scattering the pavement from the cliffs and mountains above!

I have ridden #2 Rowena Plateau in Oregon a couple times and it is nice. But Oregon has a lot of better roads than that with far less traffic. Especially if you go near the beginning of September when all the campers with their kids are back at school. Just make sure you ride with someone because a lot of these areas in eastern Oregon and SE Washington have not services. No hydro, no phone, no cell coverage so if you go off the road alone, you are on your own.

That General's Hwy in Sequoia Nat park looks orgasmic. Wished I had known of its existence when I was down in Yosemite a few years ago. I was just riding aimlessly around California for 5 weeks in 2012 and could have easily done that one for sure.

If you are ever in the Lewiston area of Idaho, you have to do the Old Spiral Hwy from Hwy 128 to State 95. A great road for a shorter spin but it is fairly well patroled by the LEO's, whose detachment is at the bottom of that road. Idaho Hwys #5 from Plummer to to #3 north to and onto #97around the east side of Lake Coeur D'Alene is a great ride too. Again, wait to the kiddies are back in school.

Have ridden #5, 7, 8, 11 and 13, I loved them all. Some are low-speed sweepers, tight corners and ascending, Valley Of Fire is loaded with dips and, if not careful, one can jump from crest to crest without even realizing. Old La Honda is fun, but a little short in my opinion.
Some roads I consider should be on the list are not. The Million Dollar Highway and Independence pass in Colorado are two of them. Highway 36 form Fortuna to Red Bluff in Ca, and UT 12 are some I consider should make the list.

Not sure where you are norcal, but I, for one, have ridden some roads in the bay area and east of it and have to say, I've seen them full of bikes.

I know those of which you speak....I have ridden pretty much all of them. It's always nice to have at least a hundered + mile loop where you don't have the problem of LEO's, the people that attract them, photogs camped out taking vanity pics of everybody to sell, and more importantly, driveways and cross streets. Add to that anything that has video posted of it, has a thread about it on BARF, is frequented by group rides, or highlighted in articles such as the one that started this thread are those that I would typically shy away from....did I mention LEO's? Luckily, most of my favorites are too inconvenient for a quick ride by the Sunday Alice's crew or others from the Bay Area proper. I don't mind looking at the pictures, though.....
