Do you have any installed photos? Where does the drilling occur?

Edit: Just found the instructions. I'm not sure I want to drill my fairings...

sliders r+g are the best and what I have-they also protect your foot which I used as a slider-my foot was sore for over a month-not a good idea. I had a few tip overs and they saved a lot of damage

Longislandvfr, it's scarier then it sounds. Did a transfer with playdoh to get location right and drilled small pilot hole first to check. Everything turned out great. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Like I said, mine have been tested a couple of times. They work perfectly and look like they came with the bike. People don't even notice them.

Even with the R&G's, you will still contact the case covers and lower fairing if it slides. Yes, they can dig into soft surfaces and cause other problems. They will protect the frame from getting gouged and scraped, which is what they are actually designed for. They will also do a great job of protecting the radiators. Ideally, case and frame sliders would be the best combination, but folks like Taylormade don't make anything for the VFR. The plastic is sacrificial.

Correct but the damage inflicted when mine decided to practice horizontal parking was thankfully very superficial mostly thanks to R&G sliders and bar ends. I certainly was not faced with scanning eBay and CraigsList looking for matching replacement panels.

I am not sure whether the original poster was inspired by this thread - http://vfrworld.com/forums/showthread.php/44298-You-dropped-it-how-many-time!

What it demonstrates is that these bikes are quite top heavy, and especially for smaller and lighter riders, it is easy to be caught out by things like a patch of uneven or soft ground, and see them tip past the point of no return with little warning.

Inevitably once 250KG of bike starts going down a 70kg rider is unlikely to be able to stop it, and the best option is just get out the way and let the sliders take the hit.

Whilst comments tend to focus on the extent to which sliders might reduce the potential impact on the value of your motorbike, don't overlook the possible value to the rider. If you try to hang on, it is too easy to upset your back, likewise by reducing the risk of your leg being pinned beneath a fallen bike, frame sliders can also limit damage to the rider!

If you have not already spotted it - your mirrors are a prime candidate for damage in any tip-over, hence it is worth making sure the pivot points for the mirrors are not too tight - (just tight enough to remain steady - but loose enough to rotate harmlessly out the way if the bike does go over). If you cannot push the mirror back by hand then its probably going to snap off if the bike hits the deck.

This motorcycle is smooth when rolling. I don't use sliders. Damage from most drops on the street won't be prevented by sliders anyhow IMHO.

Anybody seen the frame sliders that look like they have slid that attach with suction cups? These are very popular with the harleydood set and at bike nights.

My 0 mph drops resulted in no damage at all with my sliders.

    no-cut sliders.

So it happened...I knew it would...kickstand sunk into a soft spot in my driveway where there was a fluid leak and the bike tipped on it's side. Minor scuffs on the lower part of the fairing but now I'm making a purchase...

If these things fall over while sitting still, or slide from a low side, they will get damaged. Sliders might help mitigate the damage, but they will suffer damage. Your assessment of no damage...except a little paint, is oxymoronic.

i'd vote yes on sliders, never dropped a bike and then recently dropped my VFR twice in 2 weeks (2nd was due to messed up back from 1st one) - I had been thinking about them but didn't want to cut my plastics. If/when I get pristine plastic on the bike, I'll probably go with something...

Is there a market for used frame sliders? Stick a couple of rashed up ones on a bike, go to the nearest bike night and tell stories aboot high siding at 140 passing the local fast guy at the local track.

Don't try this with a Harley. That would be a tough sell.

I had hard bags on too- they act as sliders also-minor scrapes at 10-15 mph-picked up bike and rode on.
