+1 on the Heli's...favorite saying is when it comes to comfort. ..don't be cheap in the wrong way. Not sayin you're cheap by no means bub

 

Trouble is Helibars here in the UK are over $430 !!!

 

Hi...its me again...just remembered that previous owner had heated grips insatalled...maybe the mechanic removed the damper and did not put tabs back i!!?? Didn't seem to cause any trouble...wonder how important a role these tabs play!!??

 

My VFR that I bought last year came with the Helibars. Can someone tell me if the bars have to be down and touching the triple clamp or can they be slid up and tightened to the fork for a higher bar rise? Seems safer to have them all the way down and secured but I recently raised them up some and I like the bar position much better. Thank you

I slid my stockers up to even on top the day i bought mine home .haven't had a problem, I was shown the trick from a buddy who did the same on his black bird he rode of 50k miles like that.no worries . if your cables can handle it then your good.

Heli's, genmars, Lsl ?? can't bloody decide which!! anyone got a used set of 5th gen genmars for sale?

 

I have HeliBars, don't expect a big change. Subtle difference.

 

what height/leg are you Merlot? looking at the cycle-ergo.com site,trying to figure out if it's worth the cost/hassle.
do the helis have bolts in them that sit into the upper fork triple the way the oem bars do to stop them spinning around, or do they just rely on being clamped tight round the forks?

 

5'8", 180 lbs., inseam 30 inch.

Heli same as stock bars in construction. Can't spin. (easy to mount on wrong side, left for right, my mechanic was able to reverse mount them, LoL) Yes, they are marked right or left.

In an upright position, the throttle is just into the mid-finger, have to lean in to get total control.

Thanks Merlot, I wasn't sure if the Heli's had the same fitting on the bottom side that sits into the notch in the top bridge the way the oem clip ons do.

Thanks to the OP for the detailed write up. I just got my pair of helibars for my recent purchase, a 2005 VFR. And thanks to all the other contributors who have answered most the questions I had in mind.

I was wondering if any of you use loctite to tighten the helibars to the fork? Or just tighten to the recommended torque readings without loctite?

I'm probably just going to get a new set of dampers as it's easier for me to deal with (as I don't have a vise and won't bother getting one just for this one operation)

 

I got the HeliBars for my 2003, and I also got the "Vibranator" damper inserts which were fantastic. Much better than stock.

 

Torque--- no use torque hammer or locktite

Anyone else forego the reinstallation of the stock damper and just used aftermarket bar ends?

 

I used the Vibranators too, and they do work very well. But check the price, they are more $$ then OEM.
