With your experience, you will love the "Quick Shifter"

With the 7th gen 800s, I'm curious to hear from current owners about farkles as well. Is it like the 6th gen where the seat and suspension just *had* to be replaced? Also, Rebs if this is going to be your commuter, I would suggest budgeting a top case or a nice pillion case if you want less bulk. Personally, I can't imagine having a bike without a top case anymore for my commuter. Just too convenient.

    Good advice.

Once you have tested the suspension extensively, you may find that you want to upgrade it.

I think I got this advice from CandyRed...? Contact the tire mfr. and ask them the pressure range and recommendation for this bike. Between the suspension and tires, you will have plenty to start dialing in on day one, before you consider any hardware changes.

Do you guys think there is any value to consider the next owner of the bike at purchase time? Maybe you do not want OEM panniers or a rear seat cover, but those items could help sell the bike in tend years when they are not readily available. What do you think?

Does it have to have a gender? :)

I suppose if I keep my license plate it'll be a her like my FGT lol. Guess I'll just ride it around and make my decisions later. I have a Quick Shifter on my S1000RR and absolutely love having it but I also do my upshifts on my FGT without a clutch or quick shifter as the modern gear boxes are actually made to shift the minute the revs match. So under hard acceleration I don't bother using the clutch for up shifts, only down shifts. Although I have given installing a Quick Shifter some thought as well.

I do already have a Givi topbox but will need the adapter for the luggage rack and then the Givi adapter for the Givi topbox. I'm getting the saddlebags nonetheless, and a tank bag.

Hmmm...Well...I'm planning on upgrading the suspension on my S1000RR first so my street bike will have to wait. But I'm sure eventually it'll have to be done. On my 15 mile test ride I really did enjoy the suspension setup though. Firm, good control, but enough to soak up bumps!

Well...I can wait on the pipes and the windscreen. I already have a Givi V46 top case. :) I'm keeping this as I have it from my F800GT. I also have a great Givi tank bag.

The most important upgrade for me was . . . the saddle. ($650 for custom)

Next, the suspension (but at your weight, you may not even worry about it). ($1650)

Finally, Power Commander and a custom map to smooth power delivery before and through the VTEC transition. ($550). The choppy throttle in 1st drove me crazy, but the PC fixed that.

Everything else I did (wheels, rotors, brake lines, exhaust, hugger, blah blah blah,) was just for fun.

HeliBars won't work on 8th gens, Member "Motopumps" make some riser plates that work well. I don't find any need for a Power Commander, like I did on my 2003. Factory saddle isn't too bad, so I haven't looked into one for the 8th gen.

So what happened to the deal you had in the works about two weeks ago? Sounded like you were ready to go. It's to bad you can't buy your Interceptor without the sale of your Beemer. You could probably get the best money for your FGT in the spring.

I made my own Spiegler type mount to test their type of setup and I really like it, but I'm 6' and really wide shouldered.

I found that Shad makes a really nice bracket for a top case. I sourced a top case really similar to the Givi and mounted it on my Shad rack. Works AWESOME!

I'm cleaning up the FGT for sale right now and I have a friend who will help sell it for a small fee. If I can get 7-8k for it it'll make the interceptor a reality!

If I may, get up close pictures, showing the bike in its glory. Take it to the park or otherwise give it a cool background as well. The pictures in reality help push buyers' dreams over the edge. Pictures of accessories and manuals can indicate the care you put into it. The winter timing is against you so don't be shy. Use social media with public posts and get some likes. That can help identify a friend of a friend who wants to identify a well-cared for bike and not buy blindly. Hope this helps.
