I have a 1997 VFR 750 with 108,000 miles. This year it developed an oil leak. When it sits for a while there are some spots under the bike toward the back of the motor. I know I have to do some looking but was wondering if anyone has had this issue. Got any ideas of a starting point?

Easy fix, get yourself an old Britsih bike and you will never worry about oil leaks again. Sorry if this doesn't help

Google: dye for oil leak detection. If ya have an old Brit bike you don't need the stuff. If you have a Harley, ditch the bike..;)

If I had to guess by order of precedence. I'd say gear selector shaft seal followed by counter shaft seal (that being what your front drive sprocket is bolted to)

I had a shift shaft oil seal leak. Relatively easy fix.

Could also be a clutch pushrod seal. Easy to check by removing the slave cylinder. Good luck.

Something like that could possibly be related to chain oil dripping from the front sprocket cover. You do oil your chain, right ?? :sorrow:

So is it best to fix all these potential leaks or find oot if they need fixing first?

Well, I guess I've been riding more than posting ;-). Hence 108K on the bike (in Wisconsin no less).
