Man, I love watching you build a bike. The attention to detail makes everything look even better than factory.
All of the connections you have in the industry are mind boggling.

Not to mention the fact that I am jonesing to build my own bike once I buy my house in Virginia. I have been wanting to do a cafe bike or a motard.

    Nice job, Norcal

Had a little time this morning so I putzed around with finishing up the carbon engine guards. I never liked the available skid plates for the CRF450X because they are all gigantic, bulbous pieces to be used in the desert. So, I hunted around and finally found a nice glide plate for a CRF450R that would work with the engine guards.

    All covered up

Also got around to installing the R&G Racing muffler slider protection

Will start getting the final wiring harness put together this afternoon.....work is getting in the way of my free time....

Made use of a couple hours this afternoon to start the fabrication of the last piece of the wiring harness. This last part will power the Vapor computer and the aux fan.

16 gauge wire with a PVC sheath was used from the power source to these two 2x1 bullet connectors. From here the wiring will change gauges, as the Vapor computer only needs 18 gauge and the aux fan will have 16 gauge from the 2x1 to an inline fuse holder with 10 amp fuse then up to the fan switch and then down to the connector for the fan power. The fan ground wire will also be 16 gauge.

The wiring from the 2x1 connectors had to be changed for the vapor computer, as the wires are only 22 gauge. Just like the tach sensor wire, I spliced and soldered 18 gauge wires onto the existing wiring and fabbed up a harnes to make the connection.

Tomorrow I will fab up the harness that goes from the 2x1's up to the switch and down to the fan connector....still waiting for waterproof connectors and crimper to arrive from Japan, so I will get it all completed down to where the connector goes and all I'll have left is to make up the connector and the wiring will be completed.... Not too many things left. I will also be building a heavy cardboard model to send to my carbon guy to mount up the speedo sensor. The sensor mount will attach to the bottom of the radial caliper mount with an M6 bolt, so the caliper mount will have to be drilled and tapped. I need to have the speedo sensor functioing so that I can verify where to put the mount....

It's a see how it goes project. Should be almost done tomorrow. Wiring will be done tomorrow and everything should be powered up, programmed and functioning. The assembly should be done except for finalizing the speedo sensor mount and getting the seat finished. I'm going to be working on the speedo sensor mount over the next couple days, then the model will go to my carbon guy for fabrication. it's going on display in my living room until I can get it out to CA to get the startup, break in and tuning done. I will only trust that process to one group of folks, so that all has to be planned and scheduled.

I just got my home office tiled, and I have some other home plans, plus my HOA just approved my proposal to paint the exterior of my house, so I will be busy with contractors modding my house for the next few months, rofl. Like I said earlier, the bike building is just something I do as a hobby and to keep myself from getting in trouble.

Got a few more things done today.

Fabricated a power harness for the aux fan. My stuff didn't show up from Japan, so I took matters into my own hands and went to Elliot Electrical Supply here in Tucson, Az and the guys there helped me get all the suff I needed. I ended up going with a Delphi Weathepack connector for the fan. I don't have the fancy $150 crimpers that do the crimp for the wire and the seal at the same time, so I just did it the old fashioned way. The harness turned out pretty decent. The power and ground come off of the main power harness I fabbed up, goes up to the toggle switch on the top clamp and then back down to the fan with an inline spade fuse holder.

This is the subharness for the fan

This is the top clamp, toggle switch on the left is the fan control, toggle switch on the right controls the headlight

Here is the wiring installed and cleaned up

Installed the IMS 3.2 gallon fuel tank and got that all connected up. this is the first time the bike has been assembled to this point and everything went off without a hitch. Used Ti ProBolt and Mettec special parts to mount the tank and the radiator shrouds.

    poor lighting, rofl

Friday I will make up the speedo sensor mount model and install the 14t sprocket that's coming...almost finished...waiting on the seat and seat kit to show up....might not get to it before I leave again and I won't be back until the weekend before Christmas...I will also take it outside and see about getting some better pictures....these are pretty much suk

These pics confirm that form follows function, but also instruct that function can learn a thing or two from form . . .

I'm a Supermoto guy myself and truly appreciate the quality and attention to detail NC has presented on this thread. This build goes way beyond "neat farkles"!

Well the bike is fully assembled except for the seat and the speedo sensor mount. I spent a good afternoon yesterday getting a light cardboard model of the Speedo sensor mount put together.

It took a little time measuring and remeasuring, mocking it up, trimming to shape and getting it in the right place. Got it finalized after checking it with a tripod mounted laser to make sure I could just mark it and drill it when it comes back.

It is going to clip onto the side of the radial caliper mount and be held in place with two M5 x 0.8 x 10mm Ti bolts from ProBolt. The caliper mount will get drilled and tapped to accept the bolts and make for a clean install. I'm using the KTM speedo pickup because I can make distance adjustments to get the pickup to work perfectly. The standard plastic pickup is a POS. The steel KTM model is a much nicer piece.

    The finished cardboard model

I'm going to get it in the mail to my carbon fabrication guy on Monday. I spoke with him today and he is ready to go, as soon as he gets the model. I'm hoping that he gets it done and the seat and seat kit get here in the next three weeks.....It would be great to have it completely done for Christmas.
