I had taken my mom and dad out to The Cracker Barrel (you know you are old when you love The Cracker Barrel) and I watched as an old woman, possibly in her 70s, walked past. Behind her walked another woman, a carbon copy of the first one except she looked to be 100 years old. It got me thinking that we can't really be considered old if our parents are really really old.

By the way, you know you are old when you know what "carbon copy" means.

The advent of the Internet and high end color copiers changed the printing business in many ways. I was never in the industry but as a designer I was a heavy user. I was a corporate slave so I don't know which is worse, to be a struggling business owner or a cubical rat?

 

I will leave the corporate world in a second given the opportunity, and would not mind the struggle of frugality. This is the concise opposite of what I would have told you 10 years ago as I was pushing up the ladder. The grass is always greener....so the question is a trick one, there is no "better", the answer is dynamic based on a person's current situation. There is necessity to gain chops and that is easily done in the corporate world where there is always more work than one can possibly do in a day. Then there is the necessity to go it alone and impress one's individuality on the world.

I am constantly interacting with designers in my personal projects. My graphic designer is a genius, but can find very little work and so is looking to hook up as a slave again out of necessity, after decades of independence. This new economy (depression for many) is very sad.

 

You were amazed at the new game called Pong. And the first cable channels, no longer do you have 4 choices of ABC NBC, CBS and PBS. Getting smacked in the head to move the rabbit ears for a better picture. Or even better.... the human voice activated remote control. "Go change the channel!"

 

Dont forget watching Felix on the black and white tv that was in the stereo cabinet with the turn table on top.

 

You know you're getting old when you can remember the B&W tv screen flipping up and down, and you were able to fix it by stamping your feet on the floor.

I know I'm old because I remember watching the Ed Sullivan show on Sunday nights at 8, and it was one of the few shows on TV at the time, if not the only one. We lived outside NY City, and we had one like this:
