I like my motorcycles to have front brakes. Because I like to actually ride them. But that's just me.

I just think it is funny how some people get so easily upset and the end of the day nobody gives a shit what anybody else does

Wel you guys beat up on the swingarm guy pretty hard.
@Alaskan- bike slides fine on the track without the front brake.
First gear locks out once you're in second, you shift 2nd, 3rd w/o the clutch- because your left foots on the ground,
left hand throttle, right hand shift. She does about 70 topped out. All my bikes are for riding.

Blame the mods, they don't respond when I try to contact them. What should be 10 or so relevant posts gets clogged up with 70 off topic posts.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty pathetic. For some reason, a lot didn't seem to grasp that you weren't stretching it 18" or something silly like that, and only trying to get clearance for a larger tire that will open up more options for you. I get it and say go for it. You can dip the whole thing in chrome and neon the crap out of it for all I care. It's just a freakin bike, not some Holy relic.

You should see the flames when a stretch thread pops up on one of the race forums.......

There are a few stretched, strapped drag racing threads that are cool though. This thread is not a 2 foot look at me thread, just an interesting mod.

Yep, the 29 scouts were a great run of bikes. Heres a pic of one from my club in hillclimber tack. The bike is owned by Ross Poitras. The pic was taken at the very first CW show in Seattle. Please notice that somebody has done a bad thing and run a cable to that old carb from the right hand part of the bar and left the front brake on the bike.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Scout_(motorcycle)#/media/File:1929_Indian_Model_101_right.JPG

To clarify since you need to get everyone on board with your stories of various bikes, there are several old Indian scouts not only as show bikes but still in competition namely Jerry Chinns 31 and 33 hillclimbers and Tom Samuelson's famous Ball Bearing Indian. Several other are still ridden and owned by guys in the Tacoma Ducks.. MC

BTW the gears are not really locked out and on flattrackers no brakes at either end for years was SOP until the early 1960s when a shitload of AMA yellow plate novices were killed at Ascot in Gardena, CA. Front brakes were added and displacement was limited to 350cc. Some rode 250cc bikes. I would have to check but downshifts were also allowed in about that time frame.

Your Indian/Crocker would in truth only be safe to ride in vintage flat track usually held on tracks much shorter that half or full miles.

Just thought I'd let that slide in as bait there chum.

I'm thinking that if your Indian/Crocker only tops out at 70mph, how do you figure all that out? There are even filmed instances of pre 1929 board trackers doing the ton with ease.

Let me invite you to join in at my club's yearly gig on the Isle of Vashon in Washington. We would love to see the modded 29. Be advised that to be in the concours that the bike has to run. The main judge is a SOB about that kind of thing.

The assend of the bike next to the 29 I think is Bill Maxwells Gold Star. For more pix of years of the Ilse of Vashon TT and the VME displays at the CW/Advanstar bike shows in Seattle, they are on Google.

How can you think that! Any 2" extension is greatly sought after in many circles.

Would ya draw some kind of line at Plastidip? If the stuff is non-toxic I bet it would make a skin tight leotard look like a retard.. ;)

Yep, suitcases of pesos when they come up. See one if you get the chance. Harleys, Indians and others were crude compared to the Crockers. An analogy could be made I suppose to the early MVs and Boxer twins being built to aircraft specs. My feeling is that many examples have ended up in Japan where there are some dead serious collectors.

Cracks me up- the first photo you sent? Lengthend swingarm (well- frame) still, funny.

I've seen pics of Jerry Chin's #13 bike before- lustworthy.
You'd probably call what's on my shifter a "gate" more than a lock-out. it's an ugly piece of plate steel that was on there- you'd never have a reason to drop to first in a race. The AMA historic guys do this on the period road race bikes too.
My bike won't be raced- at least not in the near future. For one I'm not that great on that bike when it's sliding (nervous?) for two I'd feel like the biggest idiot when i'd drop it- which would happen eventually.
It's fun to ride around though- it gets tons of attention but I doubt it would win a concours, nothing original about it.

It's funny- a lot of people thing Indians are fast. Originally that bike, running perfect when it was new made about 10 hp. amazing huh?
With the OHV heads it's about 21 hp- not bad for just one mod back in the day. So 70mph seems pretty good actually.

I looked up your club in the link you sent- looks like a fun bunch and what a great spot for your TT!
Thanks for the the info and invite- that would be a great trip!

Now we are up to about 80 off topic posts.

Where is the "thread delete" button when you need one?
