Anyone try a non-linked rear caliper on a linked brake bike?

I'd go full f4i forks and run convertibars. That way you keep it fully adjustable and you don't lose any clearance due to shorter forks.

I was referring to using the 8th gen rear caliper. Chances are the rear brake plate and caliper would work out.

Yeah, I did some looking on the parts fiches and the 8th gen plate/brake is totally redesigned compared to the 6th gen, and it looks as if there is enough difference in the two to not be compatible. Oh well, I'll just do the hose bridge and call it good. It's just a rear brake, lol.

That might be a good way to go about doing it. When I get some F4i legs in I'll see if that'll work before sending them to Daugherty. I had thought about the Convertibars as the best bang-for-the-buck option for higher bars anyhow.

    mello dude,

do you think a custom caliper bracket could be made to use with 8th gen or any other caliper? I have F4i rear M/C, in theory if a caliper bracket could be made for the F4i rear caliper it should work right? What is the 8th gen rear M/C ratio for the rear caliper? Also, is the 5th gen rear caliper floating or fixed?

Awe, the good ole rear brake caliber question. I decide to go hunting, thinking surly there's something out there in the way of another caliber. Thing is $$$ , whats ya want to spend? Trick here is getting the upside down version of a caliber. Awe... I see Brembo makes one for $600+ then you would need to make the holding bracket of some sort. I see a RC45 caliber may fit as well as the VFR400 too. Ha, try and find one, that and again the $$$$. Like some have said, it's only the rear brake, still, I love a challenge. So whats it worth?

The linked brake system is too effective and easy to use? The weight argument is questionable....but seems to be a pretty common rationalization...that, and they make your dick smaller. Linked brakes have been proven to be better than unlinked, but why listen to facts....just ask Sean Spicer.

Just the facts: Honda no longer has linked brakes on the newest VFR800 Interceptor.

Why throw politics into the discussion?

When I converted to CBRF4 forks/rear shock, I installed the 4 pot front calipers from the CBR onto the VFR800 and de-linked the brake system. The brakes work way better than the stock linked set-up. Kept the rear stock caliper and added a junction hose to make all three work with just the rear brake master. Rear master is from a CBR600F4 for a slightly bigger bore to actuate all three pots at once.

@btl68 You were able to mount the f4i rear caliper to the vfr800? What year? I have the 5th gen, could you show me pictures and how you made it fit?

Just the front CBR calipers. I did like a few others here and used the stock rear caliper with a junction hose to connect the middle piston (from the linked part) to the other two pistons, making it a better 3-piston caliper. I used a CBR600F4 rear master cylinder to actuate that stock VFR caliper better than the stock smaller bore VFR master. It works very well now.

Linked brakes in general or the linked brake system specific to the VFR? Being that the 8th gen is no longer linked, I would say it was proven otherwise ;)
