Don't you hate it when car drivers don't do their stop?

I don't your logic is right.

Let's say I'm a pedestrian and the signal to cross is on with the timer. Cars are approaching the light.

    See my point?

#1 bike riding tip-don't hit anything it hurts too much-do anything to avoid-sidewalks-other side of the road are fair game-my favorite is simply speed out of the way-the vfr is good at that next would be ride out of the way-they can't hit you if you are not there.

In my car, before proceeding at a changed green light, I look at the crossing cars who are still slowing down to see what they will do. I have been doing this for decades. My life is too important to make assumptions. So in many respects my approach as a motorcyclist is no different from driving a car.

You also completely disagree with the MSF course who teaches to always slow at intersections because of the number of cars pulling out in front of motorcycles. So note that someone with significant authority disagrees with you. To address your "texting" issue, they also advise that you flash your brake lights before slowing at intersections or train tracks to warn people behind you. Yes, if someone is tailing you, you now must take that into account as well. But sorry I disagree, you do not completely ignore the car crossing you because someone is behind you.

No, its only "luck" if he is running from cops at 100 mph and there is no way for you to see that coming. If you can see the vehicle coming, there is nothing "unlucky" about it.

Those are different from the intersection.

    * gravel, oil and deer - usually impossible to see until you are on top of them. The oil and gravel blend in with the road (they are actually components of the road!) and the deer is camouflaged against the grassy or wooded area they pop out come from

*intersection - engineered for a clear view in all directions, usually lit at night. If not, typically signs are posted warning of the "hidden intersection" or "high accident area"

*cars - designed with many facets to be seen

*human - well known to break the law consistently

You personally choose not to take any action at intersections, but that is separate from the fact that this situation it is easily seen and perfectly predictable.

If you were correct, that we must assume people will follow the law, then we should get our taxpayer refunds for all of those "DANGEROUS INTERSECTION" signs. How can it possibly be dangerous with the bright red and green lights that people are always going to follow?

I'm not talking about proceeding from a recently changed light. I'm talking about in the flow of traffic, at speed passing through an intersection with a line of cars flying up your ass. Maintain speed.

I understand and you should have understood as well that this is just another example thrown in to illustrate that one must be aware. Never just drive acting like everyone around you is going to do what they are supposed to do. They are not.

Regarding your specific point I addressed it, if you read the post. And you should realize that your opinion is diametrically opposite of the MSF.

I always assume that a car's brakes are not well-maintained and even if he wants to stop, he is going to blow right through the intersection. I am not walking in front of the moving car, ever.

Pedestrians getting hit are not "accidents." Assume all drivers are drunk and stupid, and they may come right up to the sidewalk and run you over. If you assume that, you will never be "that victim" who "just could not believe they weren't safe on the sidewalk."
