Ohlins Rear Shock problem - no clearance for clevis bolt

Ive had a VFR 800 ( 2007 25th edition) for 10 months now and I love it.
So i decided to lavish a new Ohlins suspension on it.
I ordered the correct part from solomoto, and prepped the bike forth transplant.
Disappointingly the OEM clevis bolt does not have sufficient clearance for the top mount - the transverse bolt will not go through.
Anyone encountered this ? Can I get a clevis bolt with more clearance ?
Would this be a Honda Part or Ohlins part ?
any suggestions welcome

Gota die grinder? or a have round metal file? If it were me, I'd Take a little at a time till she clears, not any more you want to keep the clevis integrity. once done spot it with some primer, just saying that's what I would do. or take it to your friendly machine shop and have em mill some of that off. looks like from the photo only a few thousandth needs to be removed.

 

Thanks - I do have acces to a grinder and workshop - i may try that - I also worried about structural integrity for such a key component.
meanwhile I did contact the seller to see if they had any idea about parts , such as clevis bolt with a higher clearance. Anyways I cant get back onto this until next weekend, so
if i don't get a response I think I'll try your suggestion

 

It sound sacrilegious, but there is a lot more meat on the shock, a few thousands off the top is a lot smaller percentage than on the bolt.

 

I was going to mention taking a bit off the shock as well, but that's an Ohlins and if something was to go arye since it's new there goes the warranty. as I see it there's more than enough metal on the clevis to whittle away, either way we're only talking a few thousandth. for me it would be hard to mess with the Ohlins just saying. Key here is to take the time and just take enough giving it a business card thickness for clearance.

 

A friend is an Ohlin distributor, I asked him about your problem, should get back to me shortly.

 

What is the model number stamped on the head of that shock? Should be HOxxxx

 

Do you have the part # of the shock? He wants to make sure that SoloMoto got the right one.

LDH is a friend and has forgotten more about motorbikes than I will ever know. I would bet that he probably supplied SoloMoto with the shock in the first place.

That looks like a TTX style shock in the pic provided, but all the shocks currently made for the VFR800 are Conventional Type 46 Series.

 

Ok LDH, sounds like you are one in the know, cool, So where does one find a 46HRxxxx if I recall correctly, for the 98-99

 

You would have to sweettalk someone on one of these forums out of theirs.

The Ohlins VFR shocks prior to 2002 have been discontinued by Ohlins Sweden and sold out for quite some time now.
