My son and his best bud were out riding Friday night. A driver ran the red light and wiped his bud out. My son had his Sena recording. WARNING: MY SON GOT VERY SCARED AND EMOTIONAL. LOTS OF BAD LANGUGE. His bud spent the night in the ER and has been released with some minor injuries to his body and a massive bump on his forehead. He is just now starting to remember the accident https://youtu.be/qwBU2YS3-AI

Thank GOD no one was killed, and your son is safe although was shocked to see his friend struck.

I'd file a civil lawsuit and take everything that driver has. Under 18 or not, that was fleeing the scene after vehicular manslaughter.

Looks like Ohio has been taken over by Republicans.

We ride with that threat over our heads all the time. Sure glad he is going to be OK. Response time for the first ponderers was great. Just over 3 minutes!

Hit and Run from a vehicular Manslaughter is taking it to the extreme I think. He did not succumb to his injuries. He is alive and on the mend. Hit and run to escape civil or criminal liability absolutely. The rider needs someone in the legal profession to watch over his needs I think.

I usually preach that we are far more visible at night time due to our lights contrasting with the surrounding darkness. Unfortunately, the opposite can be true if there are a lot of artificial lights around in the back ground. They tend make our bike lights blend in a bit with the back ground. But that does not excuse the driver for running the red, or stopping to even see if the biker needed help. Fucking coward.

Get well soon and get back on a new bike!

P1010242.jpg I agree, you need to be seen, the vfr has very good lights for a bike. I made mine a bit better by adding brighter headlights. Even a simple tag light helps especially at night. I also think that riding can be safer at night when the bike's lights stand out better. Here is one tip that might help-never assume someone won't run a red light-treat green lights as more of a 4 way stop. Don't try and beat yellow light either. All ways be careful of blind spots. Sometimes I use a car in front to be a blocker. Cars are less apt to pull out in front of cars, so trailing a car close on hills and curves not a bad idea-just don't hit the car in front. The pic has the headlight blubs I am using -quite a bit more power for little money.

forgot to mention that the police did get the driver about 20 minutes later. He spent the night in the hospital, but has been released and is recovering at his home. he is just starting to remember the accident. He has a concussion, a massive bump on his forehead, lots of bruising and abrasions, but nothing major as of yet. he was wearing a textile jacket. not sure of the name brand.

the cops did do a good job, no way you hit someone that hard and not know it. I am a bit more careful-this has been the worst year maybe ever here. Well I rode the bike and fixed a few things, I usually take a break the next day.

I seem to remember a couple of years ago hearing of a drunk who hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian came through the windscreen. The driver failed to notice, drove on home and parked the car in the garage. So you can hit someone that hard and not notice, but if you do you shouldn't have been behind the wheel in the first place. I suspect that may have been the case here.

There's a comment above about using cars in front as a buffer. You need to be really careful following closely behind cars at an intersection as you are hidden from turning traffic and can be picked off by vehicles who decide to turn quickly behind the car in front of you.

Very glad the rider is OK. Despite getting hit, he's one lucky man. Great to see so many bystanders getting involved to help.

Well that was very upsetting to watch...glad he's on the mend....intersections are the scariest, look two three times on both oncoming traffic sides before I even cross the crosswalk.
Sure your son is traumatized. ..
Like what was said...99% sure the fuker was texting

    Here the driver would get charged with;
    Dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
    Fail to stop,
    Fail to render assistance,
    Fail to report accident

The car driver would be using shanks pony for 6-12 months and if probationary driver licence cancelled and starts the whole learner/probation thing all over again.

UPDATE: 10-14-2015 He has a concussion and a massive bump on his forehead, bruises, abrasions and minor injuries to his body, but he is home resting and recovering. His memory is improving, but details of the accident are sketchy. The driver is an under 18 new driver. She said she didn't know what to do so she went home and told her mom. Her mom made her go with her back to the accident scene. No word yet on what's happening to the driver.

The local news did a story: http://www.keprtv.com/Kennewick-motorcycle-accident-victim-speaks-out-332588972.html?mobile=y

He has a GoFundMe set up here: WARNING there are some pics from the accident night https://www.gofundme.com/6565f7f3

I'm glad that he's getting better. Any word from the at-fault driver's insurance? They should be picking up 100% of the associated accident costs.

Will Hayden be filing a civil suit to be compensated for pain and suffering?

That was scary to watch. Glad the guy is alright and able to live some more. I hope he doesn't have any long term effects from the big head bump. Yep trust no one out there on the roads.
