Hi VFR community! My first post.
Just recently purchased a yellow 99 which didn't come with grab bars.
A pair just were on ebay, but i wasn't the successful bidder.
I am wondering if grab bars from other generations would fit on the 5th? Does anyone have experience with this, or have heard of someone else trying?
The Canadian $ is kinda brutal right now so I am looking at every option before paying full retail.
    Let me know your thoughts...Cheers

    Hey Delta

Welcome to the WORLD. Now that you have purchased a VFR you may have inadvertently spoiled yourself to owning any other motorcycle. You may even become crazy, insane, and just a little obsessive about your new found bike. LOL. Not a problem mind you as you should fit right in with the rest of us.

The grab handles do appear every so often on eBay so keep trying and you may get lucky. Alternately, you might try one of the aftermarket suppliers that sells OEM parts for the bike such as Partzilla.com. I have purchased parts from them on a couple of occasions now and their prices were very good and their shipping charges to Canada were very good compared to a couple other sites I tried. Parts 7 & 8 on this link.

There was a member here that was parting out a 5th gen a little while back, and here is a link to the thread. Not sure if there were any grab handles available (none were listed in original post) but it might be worth sending the OP a quick PM and ask.

Might also be a good idea to check the Classified section here and maybe over on VFRD as well. Hope you find a set of handles and enjoy the new ride.

Bear in mind that most (female) passengers don't use grab bars, but rather wrap their arms around you.
And with their awkward placement, they aren't particularly useful.

I've never found female passenger's arms to have awkward placement (unless they are fending off unwanted attention), nor are their arms particularly useless.... Or have I misunderstood your post?

I'm in the same boat as the OP, in that my recent purchase, a '97, is also missing the grab bars. I haven't had a passenger on the back yet. My wife used to ride with me all the time, but is not very interested at this point. She's using the lack of grab bars as the reason. I'm not sure if I should find a set, and call her bluff, or just enjoy the solo riding!

This may show my ignorance, but aren't some of the earlier gen grab bars stowed under the seat?
