Maybe put a cat in the shed or wherever you keep your bike. Some people would suggest putting mothballs around your bike. Supposed to help keep rodents away. Good luck getting that air filter replaced under warranty. Pipercross isn't even remotely responsible for that kind of damage.

:bluesbros:well I don't agree-rodent damage is something that any filter has to deal with. I won't tell them though. I know k+N would replace it. I don't know when this happened, but from the look of it its recent. There is a cat outside , I guess she is not up to it-moth balls do sound like a good idea. Pipercrosss does have a Florida office, I don't think they want to see pics of their filter all screw up all over the internet. the wolf all ways win. Beware of the BB Naledi she male, still taking bikes to caves-has been going on for millions of years.

Yeah, warranties normally cover "defects in material quality and workmanship". Now I am going to open myself up to criticism and jump out on a limb here......but I'm guessing that doesn't quite fall under that description.

No manufacturer including K&N will replace that.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here myself and venture to say that if SOW did get K&N to replace his air filter, it was probably due to him bombarding them with emails full of the same gibberish he post on VFRWorld. Most likely gave it to him just get him to stop! Nice plan SOW, you truly are an evil genius! :clap2:

    • Why do we park in driveways, and drive on parkways?
    • Why is it that when we transport something by car it's called a shipment, but when we transport something by ship it's called cargo?
    • Why isn't 11 pronounced onety-one?
    • Why did Japanese Kamikaze pilots wear crash helmets?
    • How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another?

I really don't know, the world is just a strange place.

No I did not do that-I took a pic of the air filter system and a tab broke that holds the pipes on the car-they replace the whole system because they couldn't color match the rest, that was all I had to do. K+ N is one of the top companies in the world and they do back up their warranties I don't know about pipercross because they are a UK company that is actually very big in Europe as far as I presently know they are a very good company. Now I have a air filter with a hole in it, I am not going to explain how it got there. Just ask they replace the filter. I now know it was a chipmunk and he was living there till I opened up the air box. This was a very bad problem-I don't know how much damage was done . There was some junk passed the air filter into the throttle bodies and I am not happy about it. Maybe I should just sue them for a new engine or having to bring it to a shop to clean out throttle bodies. The throttles bodies have to have junk in them-how much I don't know. The stock air filter might have not failed like this. This was not a racing air filter, pipercross does sell racing air filters-there is a big difference. The pipercross is totally flat unlike the stock one that has a waffle design-much more resistance to holes in air filter. Design problems=defective filter.:clap2:

SOW, you have to promise to post your correspondence with Pipercross. It should make for an "interesting" exchange. While you're at it, you should tackle Honda for marking the full mark incorrectly on the oil sight glass.

When I took my air filter apart this spring I was surprised to see that there was probably a couple of cups of sunflower seeds in there chocking it. I think they had been there a while as I hadn't checked it since the previous winter and it sure ran a lot better this summer compared to last year. I keep my bikes in the garage that's not attached to the house and gets really cold there in the winter obviously and there are mice squirrels and chipmunks there all the time. When I started my Suzuki GS850 in January just before I sold it seeds blew out of the exhaust and covered the floor in the garage and out into the driveway. I looked in the VFR exhaust at that time but saw nothing. Never thought to check the intake.
Good luck with the warranty exchange. Did you find any benefit with that particular filter over the stock or K&N?

I suggest y'all be wary in future of any catmeat shipments made by SOW. They might be squirrel or even chipmunk.

I put the stock filter back on and noticed it was more chipmonk proof than the flat pipercross which is perfectly made for a chipmonk nest-this is a design flaw. A triangle is much more robust than a flat surface. I am going to bluid a chipmonk proof fence in front of the air intake with steel wire.:smash: I sent pic to pipercross for replacement filter

I made a sheet metal cover for my intake, for the winter storage. Just don't forget to take it off in the spring.

It is very easy to make a wire fence that won't stop air flow, it only needs to be small enough to stop a chipmunk.
so you would just leave it on all the time. Chipmonk are very fast and can build a nest very fast.
a piece of tin would stop them maybe- they are very sneaky and strong for their size however.
