Somebody asked if anyone had downloaded Windows 10.

I did. So far I lost use of my scanner, my printer and my Photoshop.

Just tried to print a simple one page doc on my printer and it kicks me into a PDF copy. MS is saying this OS is the best thing since kitty on the barbie. Went into HP's site to see what could be done. MS is keeping mum and HP has page after page of info on how to fix this POS.

My advice, wait for MS to fix it or stick with what you have.

I went through 2 weeks of E-Mail not working after the upgrade on the laptop

No problems at all with the desktop everything works just fine Both ASUS machines only difference is the desktop was win7 pro and the laptop was win 8.1

I had to sign out from my microsoft account after creating a local account with full administrative rights and then reload a few apps from the store and then re-sign into my microsoft account to get my email working again

I also had to do an sfc /scannow from the command prompt screen several times to repair a few corrupt files from the install

This is the trouble with being an early adopter of a new O/S you get to be a beta tester with no thanks

I am still having problems with my printer but the scanner still works even plugging and unplugging the printer the usb port does not seem to recognize there is anything being plugged into it

I really really hate Microsoft but a Macbook to equal my laptop is 2.5 times the cost ($2600)

Windows 8.1 was working just fine for me and now I wish had never upgraded the laptop and just bought a new one with a factory installed O/S at least then I could take it back and back again until they fix it

    Fast forward 40 minutes
Well just to update this I went to the Epson support/download webpage and they had a new win 10 driver available for my printer that was not available 2 weeks ago

So I downloaded it and went through the install for both the printer and scanner now they both work perfectly

Part of the install was to set the printer/scanner as the default device now when I prompt it to print/scan a page it opens an Epson formatted page instead of the M/S office print interface

Might just be worth having a look at the support page foryour make of scanner/printer

I did the "free upgrade" to windows 10 last month. struggled and struggled. Finally, I just uninstalled it and went back to 8. you have a month to do so. Anyway, Microsoft programmed in a "virus" like update that keeps trying to update your windows 8 to 10 even after you return to 8.

Finally figured out after hours on the internet you have to delete or un update KB3035583. this came out earlier this summer and they didn't really let you know what it really was, just installed it with the other updates. that's some shifty stuff. now all is well. I didn't really see the advantages for me and my computer use with windows 10 so probably won't miss it. hope it works out better for you.

I just wanted to quickly chime in here as this is what I do for a living.

Windows 10 is overall a pretty good operating system, BUT <- here it comes, as with any other operating system it has is beautiful bugs and incompatibilities with older devices like printers and scanners. Especially HP all in one printers which are older than 3-5 years will likely not get any Windows 10 support.

Now overall the system is stable and fast however there are some issues you need to be aware of when upgrading to windows 10.

    1. With Windows 10 Microsofts Privacy Policy was changed as Microsoft takes the right to inspect/use any of the files you store on your computer for product improvement. This does not only affect files in OneDrive but all files on your hard drive (photos, documents, music etc.)

    2. Microsoft reserves the right to disable any hardware it finds to be problematic or illegal under their terms of use. The same goes for pirated games (now that part makes sense).

    3. Microsoft also has the right to use your information and data (in this case data on your behaviour as a user and based on the files you use) to evaluate, and sell it to third parties.

    4. Windows 10 is the first Operating System which reports any potential Copyright infringement to Mark Monitor who then report to law enforcement.

    5. Windows 10/Microsoft monitors all user activity under a childs account and stores reports which are then sent to you as the parent (again kind of acceptable)

    6. Windows 10 sends/stores your handwriting and voice command data to cortana and entered in Microsoft Edge for product improvement.

Overall some of these things make sense yet others are a serious invasion into peoples privacy even if they don't do anything wrong. If you value your privacy, I'd recommend to wait with adopting as microsoft is catching so much flak over this from the business community that they are already working on Service Pack 1 to disable most of these features and give the user the choice of accepting these terms or not.

I know it sounds a bit crazy but one of the EU Privacy Commissions said it best:

My personal and professional opinion is to wait, and see what comes in the next 6 months. Your free upgrade is already secured with the reservation.

    Philipp

I upgraded my work laptop (W7), all my kids laptops (W7), and my PC at home (W8.1).
We are all finally running on the same platform.
For me it all went fantastic.
Everything works, and nothing went missing.
All of the privacy issues stated above can be switched off.
There are some niggles, as in all new systems, but nothing major for me.
The new Windows Edge browser is a bit unstable, but I mainly use Firefox anyway.
All my peripherals work, and were set up automatically by W10.
    I think its great.

You don't have to be stuck with it. Google helps in troubleshooting problems. I promise you, you can solve most of the problems yourself.

On one of my computers an MS update installed a "Get Windows 10" (GWX.exe) into the startup of the OS. When I tried to remove it from the registry, the editor says it is not allowed. So basically every time I start up the computer the "Get Windows 10" message would be smack dab in the middle of the screen! Sneaky bastards. I was able to remove the program from the hard drive but I wasn't able to remove the execution of the program from the registry.

As far as spying on you, you'd be surprised on how much info is being collected just from your browser! Ever notice on some websites there's a little ad in the corner or side of the webpage with "special offers" on what appears to be items you have looked at recently, or items similar to what you browsed?

There is a quick fix to hiding the Windows 10 notice without having to do too much.

Just click on the upwards pointing arrow on the right side of the task bar (near the date/time)

    Click on Customize.
Then select GWX10 and say hide icon and notifications.
This will effectively hide this and doesn't let it bother you anymore.

OOTV it sounds to me you have already spyware on your computer.
Download and run a software called "Malwarebytes"

    http://www.malwarebytes.org

It is free for personal use and should clean out your computer, unless the bug is more serious (which I can't judge from here)

OZ VFR, the issue is that you cannot turn all those features off. While some yes you can, the data reporting service cannot. Nor can the ability for microsoft to disable software and hardware. The other thing that cannot be turned of is the Mark Monitor reporting.

People have pointed out that some registry modifications can resolve that. However, Microsoft doesn't let you choose if you want their updates or not and force pushes updates to you now. Which has been found to change those settings back to their original setting. Basically while the Operating system is as a whole great, the issue is purely that of privacy.

My lawyer, accountant, and security clients all had me uninstall Windows 10 after they became aware of the issues. My lawyer clients put it this way: "We cannot guarantee our clients privacy at all as Microsoft reserves the right to review all data without notification." My Accountants put it this way: "With many of our clients data being confidential we cannot put any of the data at risk with windows 10, it is illegal for accountants for example to store a lot of their data on the cloud for exactly this reason, now the cloud is our computer."

(little news bit for anyone: Non-Profit organizations are actually legally not allowed to store any of their information on a cloud service that is in any way affiliated with a united states business as the 4th amendment exclusion of such service puts the data potentially in the hands of third parties for review.)

I have uninstalled more 10 installations than I have installed... and don't get me wrong I like the OS but the issue for my clients is that most cannot guarantee that their Kid's or someone else in the business doesn't install or download a program, song, or movie which hasn't been copied thereby violating copyright which could land them in hot water.

I have 1 Windows 10 Workstation sitting beside me here for the purpose of testing and walking people through on how to do things but that is it. I have 8 computers; 2 being mac I have 1 running windows 7 and 5 Windows 8.1 and 1 running 10.

Like I said though it is up to you and your perception on what you feel is okay. If this does not bother you then it is a great operating system and it works well with newer and especially main stream hardware. I would however recommend not to use Microsoft Edge, the browser still has a few flaws and (like the OS) is a reworked Internet Explorer, your best choice likely is Firefox followed by Chrome (as long as you don't sign into their Chrome Account).

If you have questions don't hesitate to ask :)

I am switching to Mac. I have had enough of PCs. Sure, they cost more but from what I hear, you don't have to spend close to a c note every year for antivirus programs that work just adequate but not good by any stretch of the imagination. They continue to work fast unlike PCs that slow down after a few years. I if spend more than 1/2 hour on Google Maps, looking about, my computer almost crashes. Both of them actually.

I am sure Mac has its problems but I have not heard anyone who I know that has a Mac, complain about how they operate.
