I'd keep the Ohlins if possible. They can be refurbished really well. You may be right about the front forks being badly done, but by the look of the dented wheel I'd be very surprised indeed if they didn't suffer some kind of damage in the crash, especially if other parts of the front end are damaged. I really do think it would be worth your while getting them off the bike and having them checked for straightness before you spend any other cash on changing them.

I don't know anything about the Twobrothers exhaust, but there must be alternative mounting options if it just slips on to the existing exhaust. Mine has the stock OEM end can and a Motad stainless steel replacement system. The sound of the OEM end can is non-offensive shall we say. Mine rumbles a bit, but then the end can is 16 years old and I think the internals have probably had it. It has that lovely V4 growl when it's wound up on the road and TBH I think some of the louder cans tend to mask that lovely exhaust note that gives the bike its personality. Just an opinion because I have nothing against loud cans at all.

I've looked for a replacement end can, but many that are for sale appear dented or scratched. Mine has no external marks on it and I'm reluctant to swap it for something worse. If you're looking for a replacement you'll struggle to find a really good one. Again, if it was me I'd keep what's on it if it's serviceable and if not go for a nice replacement. They don't have to cost the earth.

Others here can help you with the fitting of your current can, but do a few searches on the site for some ideas.

I think you are right, about the stanchions, only option is wait and see on the weekend... The twobrothers does have a nice growl to it but is a little louder when idling, its not bad but the mounting of this exhaust makes me want to strangle someone.

The fender being damaged actually bothers me quite a bit however I saw I can easily find replacement ones in good shape. That being said I can deal with it until the mechanicals are taken care off. I noticed that fairing bolts are missing and others were replaced with run in the middle so I grabbed a bolt kit already. I figure that unless I find something nasty under the fairings I should be able to get away with ca. 1500 Cad in parts (thats unless the canadian dollar dips further... :sour: ) and that is including the rubber and the fluids (looking at Dunlop Q3's).

Thanks again your help is greatly appreciated :)

Let me know if you want to get rid of your high mount, but I am pretty sure you can find a stock on ebay for pretty cheap. Personally TBR exhaust is a great exhaust for the VFR and I am pretty sure you can silence it.

Well after hearing Zoom-Zoom's Delkevic I kinda like it more than the TBR that being said The low mount is really what I am looking for (something that doesn't interfere with soft bags, etc.) I definitely am interested in selling it/trading it for a low mount exhaust. I do like the sound of the TBR but I live also in an environment where the the loud bubbly sound doesn't work (for the sake of my neighbours :) )

Yeah, not a quick read, and the girlfriend comments I could do without, but he did get some nice looking parts at a good price and decent quality.

    Almost there..... :D

Annnnnd since i haven't posted anything in a while about my beast of a project... (as Zoom-Zoom can verify... I swear he is laughing everytime he thinks about having almost bought this bike)....

So what has been done... well she has been resurrected. In some way or form, bleeding me dry in the process.

    • New Rubber
    • New Chain and Sprockets
    • New Front Wheel Bearings
    • Replaced Front Rim
    • Upgraded headlights to led (thanks to Zoom Zoom :) )
    • Installed auxiliary switch for additional devices
    • Installed USB Ports
    • New Stator
    • Installed proper auxialliary sae port (love that thing)
    • Replaced rear cowel
    • Replaced upper stay (grumble)
    • Got a new seat
    • Got new mirrors.... (CONDOM MIRRORS DAMNIT WHY DID I BUY THESE???)
    • Replaced a couple of fairing stays
    • Modified current R/R for additional cooling
    • switched rear fender
    • swapped fork seals and dust covers and installed new bushing kit
    • Replaced pegs (were shaved down to the rubber)
    • Replaced all radiator hoses
    • Upgraded dash lights to led's (again thanks to Zoom Zoom :) )
    • Replaced Kickstand and Center Stand Springs
    • Removed a seized and broken bolt from the front exhaust header... (again not without help)
    • Replaced Rear brace/frame
    • Moved Ohlin's Controls
    • Lowered Exhaust
    • Oh did I mention repaint the whole bike .... Thanks Zoom Zoom ;) The bike now is black with colored metal flecks
    • Powder Coated Rims .... after Zoom Zoom had to mention that this would be a good idea too :D
    • Bled the Brakes... (both Zoom Zoom and I almost lost it on the bike... bleed here.... no here... no there... no here... seriously?!?!?!?) :)
    • Bled the Clutch (thankfully simple)
    • Cleaned the airfilter
    • Replaced the oil filter and oil
    • Replaced the exhaust manifold..... only to find out it was one from a later model (smaller diameter pipes) so then I ordered another replacement manifold.... GOT THE SAME ONE AGAIN... but this time with the right rear headers....
    • Stripped and painted rear headers (aurgh....)
    • Replaced all exhaust gaskets and plugged extra sensor holes in manifold
    • Replaced Shifter and Brake pedals they were bent inward and shaved off
    • Fixed rear brake switch
    • covered headlight and signal lights in vinyl tape (cant remember if it was 3m or not)

So the bike became a bit more of a big deal than the bargain I had hoped for as I continued finding new issue after new issue... Today however for the first time in nearly.... 8 months she ran... and well... ish...
Now I have this weird crackling noise when she is in gear... Needless to say there is a little more to be done... My screen is a bit of an annoyance as it is bent from the previous owners "laying it down while standing", after Zoom Zoom and I looked at the bike in detail that line was such a crock of .... :) ... This bike had been raced and raced hard.

I should add that the gas tank lid, pedals.... and especially the exhaust would never have come back to life and look the way they are without Zoom Zoom... well in reality its the whole bike look and feel now...
What still needs to be done? Well i discovered a nasty crackling sound when the bike is in gear... and the clutch and brake levers are bent beyond hope.... Oh right and I NEED to get rid of these condom style mirrors those things ... whoever invented them must have felt it funny that some german guy in his garage tried to get that stupid rubber cover over both ends of the mirror arms urgh....

Also Some luggage but that is more wishful thinking... I still need to figure out what to do with the bolt holes for the rear seat cowel as the ones in my replacement rear stay seem to have well no threads sigh.... Likely new brake pads while the current ones look good I don't want to risk it. Anywho I took some photos and attached them.... If anyone has an idea what that crackling noise may be... i'd appreciate it.

    Thanks
    Philipp

I should also add that Zoom Zoom managed to get and put the VFR decal on the newly painted panels too.... looks GREAT.

I should also add that i replaced at least 300 dollars worth of bad bolts... Very expensive these Honda Bolts...
