The VFR has left me stranded...

SOW needs his wires soldered then shrink wrapped. His butt is taken by his stable of shemales.

 

Some small consideration should be acknowledged here. SOW has just been elected Presedentress of the Caitlin Jenner fan club.

 

Why would you want to sell the VFR after you have solved the problem . . . ?

 

If you're really this pissed and want to get rid of it, do so - and buy a 5th or 6th gen instead. Both bikes are so reliable that any significant mechanical issues should be chalked up to bad luck, nothing more.

 

trade in a bike that doesn't need cam chain tensioners, like ever. brilliant.

 

6th gen 06 with 46k on it. It just left me stranded on the side of the road last week for the first time. $180 in towing and loss of two hours of my Time and sweating onthe side of the road. The local shop said they didnt know how to test it and that they just swap parts. "That it is usually the R/R anyway". Intook to another shop and Guess what. The R/R was fine it was the stator. I will be buying both stator and R/R and keeping the original as a spare. I mean 46k on it it good after all and now I'll have all nice new stuffs.

 

so I can expect to get at least 30,000 out of my electric stuff-I got 9500 on it. I am a perfect bean and the best VFR rider, I only drop my bike to have the pleasure of fixing it with better parts.

So the question is, was there any sign whatsoever that the stator was failing? The inability of these manufacturers to build in some warning boggles the mind.

 

eh? It's called installing an onboard voltmeter.

 

I had no warning. My guess if I were to have had in installed voltage meter, I would have seen it going bad. I'm still probably not going to install one tho.

 

Has he gone yet? Maybe a Vespa might be in order. Who really cares?

 

I have the same year - would like to know how many total miles on your bike, and what kind of sustained speeds you were doing on your trip, like interstate/freeway, or slower lower rpm backroads ???

 

Well ... I tallied the #'s from my wrecked bike today, including the tour that it was totaled on.

I put on on almost 10,000 miles this year, and I only got to start riding it daily in late April when the weather / snow permitted. First thing I did was beef up all the wiring and replace certain connectors (I didn't solder correct - I used high grade / high contact / high capacity radio controlled connectors), di-eletric grease, solder, and shrink wrap. I also installed a volt meter and redundant lines back from the R/R to the battery.

Even with heated grips and other accessories running (USB port, etc), never once did the charging system hiccup ... every knows the charging systems on these bikes need a little help up front, but become quite reliable once the work is done.

 

I lightly went though my electrics when a tag light blew

 

What do you mean by "radio controlled connectors". I presume this is a grade of connector used in such hobby? But what type, banana jacks / pin connectors / other? Any comments on these versus other connector options that you considered?

 

Problem is the OP posts one post about spitting the dummy and runs away without responding once about what he has tested or done to rectify the problem. All he has done is blame the equipment and if I remember correctly he had been a member here for a while so should have been well aware of the fixes that people have come up with to sort these charging problems but as usual most people put their head in the sand and try believing that they will be lucky and not end up with charging problems. We now have 37 posts after his dummy spit

 

I used 5mm bullet connectors ... they are good up to 160A peak (120A continuous) with 24K gold flash finish.

I know these works because the motors I use in my RC helicopters have drawn in excess of 250A peak without a meltdown or performance loss.

 

Again, if the issue will be fixed, why would the OP dump the motorcycle after it is properly fixed?

This makes no sense to any sentient being.

As a kid, my sister rushed past me and managed to knock my ice cream onto the floor. She apologised and picked it up, removed the dirt from the side and gave it me back. Understandably I was not entirely convinced I wanted THAT ice cream any more ...

We are all individuals and I suspect most of us have at some time got extremely angry with some inanimate object - personally I think my latest smart phone is far from bl**dy smart although I am sure operator error may be a contributory factor here..

So if the guy has indeed had it with the VFR, then maybe someone on here will get a bargain

[Revealing ulterior motive] After Scubalong dropped by here with the family this summer, I have been researching options for a visit stateside next year. If there is going to be a 2016 R3 ??? then I would be tempted to try and get over for that, where it would be great to rock up on a 5th Gen. If the VFR is really up for sale, and you are OK to keep it in store until next year, then my bid is $502.:biggrin:
