The X-12 is a "racing" helmet not a commuting or touring helmet, hence the price. Helmets like the Shoei Qwest, GT-Air and RF-1200 are more for touring and general street use. Being on the VFR the more upright riding position may not suit the helmet as much as if you were in the "tuck" position. Doesn't mean that it won't work but the vents and aerodynamics are meant for the latter riding position.

I wear one and commuted with it 100 miles round trip for a couple years before I retired. Yes it is expensive. But it is light too. Which is why I bought it. Degenerative disc disease in the neck. It also has superior venting too. But with that, you get increased wind noise and if ridden in heavy driven rain, water gets in. Just about time for a new helmet. I am about 80% sure it will be the X twelve again. Other choice is Shoei's newest with the flip down dark visor.

Love Mine! And I use it daily, I got the flat black one, most I ever paid for a brain bucket. I wore Arai for over 30 years and went with the Shoei and will never deal with the bs Arai shield. Old saying, you get what you pay for holds true for skid-lids. I wear my Quantum 5 or what ever it is and can't believe how much more superior the Shoei is.

The shield on the Shoei just works so much smoother than the detent-less Arai shield. Not even go into the adventure of removing the Arai shield, an adventure in sounds of cracking plastic. I would get possibly a lower priced one in the future though.

Not a helmet endorsement btw, just a point of view...:vtr2:

All helmets do not fit everyone. Could be that some of the X-12s have been painted or loaded up with stickers and decals or one of those dayglow mohawks that are way cool in some circles.

I think there might be a shitload of helmets oot there that are "racing" helmets.

I bought a x-11 a few years ago after I damaged my Rf-1000. The x-11 was very nice but had less air flow than the rf-1000 at slower and less aggressive posture. I mostly use my Quest that I bought because I get better air flow, although its my least favorite out of the three.

P.S. If you have a bigger head like mine XL, Ebay is awesome for getting good deals. I bought the RF-1000 for 165.00 the X-11 for 250.00 and the Quest for 230.00, all of them were brand new.

I've been wearing the X-12 Kiyonari for a couple of years now as my daily lid. It's been a fantastic helmet with a faultless visor system. Like others have mentioned, it's a pricey one, usually listed between $650 and $900 American dollars (I got lucky and got mine brand new for $420 out the door; it helps to have an inside man at the local dealer) so that's probably the main reason you don't see many of them out there.

Honestly, it probably IS. I just really liked the artwork (dragon) and colors. And the fact that it seems no one else has one, around here anyway.

I wear a Shoei Qwest and though I like the helmet; I notice if I lean forward at all (slight 3/4 tuck) it does start to fog a bit indicating the vent location isn't optimal. I may try the X Twelve if I can get a deal on one; my last bike was more upright than the viffer and it never came up.

Crazy, I wanted an X12. it wasn't price that drove me away, damn thing is larger, all though some say lighter, I didn't notice, it feels huge, which it is with the additional impact foam material which added girth, then add for me there wasn't a paint scheme I cared for, there fore I went with what I had had before, Shoie xs-sp love it. So with all the concern with price I read, I have to ask just how much is your head worth?

the 1200RF is out and the lightest helmet in the world of its type with a shell rating around $400. many improvements over 11. This is the helmet save your head. don't buy old models . Don't cheap out.:boxing:
