    Ahoy all.

Had my 5th Gen for about two weeks now. Enjoying it, getting used to the forward position (previous bikes have been very upright). Loving the gearing and power delivery. I wanted a change from inline 4's and more usable power at the low/mid end of things and some wind protection for longer journeys. Haven't done any real miles yet, still getting used to the change in steering and handling as well as fixing the few minor issues it has.

I've moved up from a '98 Fazer 600 which was great as a first big bike for just over a year, but then i had the opportunity to by a 2000 VFR800fi Gen 5 (Red) for a good price with less than 25k miles on the clock, so i sold the Fazer and got this.

I plan on some useful accessories to make it the best it can be for me without spending too much:

    • Helibars (my wrists and back aren't great)
    • A nice exhaust (because; rumble)
    • Touring screen with that little flick screen on top to stop wind getting under and into my helmet to make it loud.
    • Crash bungs (for when i drop it)
    • Replace slightly bent gear pedal
    • Denali sound bomb horn - stock is a bit meep meep.
    • Riderscan mirror for blind-spot elimination
    • Replace fairing bolts
    • Better rubber (pilot road 4's)
    • Puig levers
    • Mirror spacers
    • Mirrors from some other Honda which will just fit and have indicators in them + are memory mirrors (recommendations welcome)
    • Stock indicator delete (maybe replace with some flush-fit smoked indicators)
    • Heated grips
    • Tank shield to stop me scratching it
    • Rim repaint
    • Fix all scuffs and marks on paint
    • VTR1000 fans to cool bike a little better

I was considering something like that. Any specific year? And is soldering recommended over connections?

Plenty of advice on here about charging problems. All gens electrics are rubbish.
Definitely solder the yellow stator to regulator wires, the plug is a known weak spot.
Do "the drill" , solder connector and go mosfet regulator then ride ride ride.
The 5th gen motor really is a thing of beauty wound up.
Where in the Midlands are you, I'm in Leics , pork pie central

I rode mine (6th gen) for several year before I finally got around to putting on the heli risers. They helped, but it was not a huge difference for me. I would hold off replacing that bent gear pedal for a while. Make sure you are comfortable with riding this and get your dumps out of the way first. With that, the frame sliders is probably a good idea. Haven't got them on mine but should have long ago.

The new windscreen may not work for you. That depends on your stature from the waist up. A friend had one of the Puig screens where the upper edge culed upwards a bit. He compared riding his with riding mine. The turbulance was considerably greater on his.

If the tires are still good, wear them out forst and get you money's worth out of them Then buy your PR4s

Welcome to the site. We don't like pix of your bike at all around here. That is just a myth.

    Fair points, Randy.

Tempted to try a stock screen as it's a bit lower than the current one (no idea what it is, but it's not stock and it's a bit taller) - That might move the airflow down a little and solve the problem..
