Don't know if this is a big deal or not, but hoping for a quick fix until I can call them tomorrow. I got my bike back and the center cap from the handlebars is missing. Big deal, or not? How can I cover in the meantime?

If you're referring to the black cap that goes in the steering stem. its not that critical. A lot of people remove this to add various mounts to their bikes for GPS units & sadly cell phones.

To clarify it's the big black cap in the center just below the keys...it's gone and I'm just looking down a hollow tube...

anything I can cap it off with. I'm at a loss for ideas other than some plastic and rubber bands.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. Some newer bikes don't come new with stem caps anymore.

Did you have steering head work done on it? If you did, maybe the mechanic was negligent/absent minded. Could have been pilfered in the lot waiting for you too. I would say something, wtf, custamer is always right. It would be more of a big deal if they lost your plastic spud that covers the hole in your single sided swing arm imho.

Bike makers are just as guilty as the car companies thinking aboot their bottom line and giving "us" less for our money (read-cheap cheap cheap.) Like the little birds say :hss:

A large rubber beaker stopped stolen from your highschool lab may work nice on short term. But if you are heading back to the shop in the next couple days, why worry about it?

That stupid little cap is $10.89 at Bike Bandit. I'd put a cork in it before I spent that.

I would talk to the manger and complain -no steering cap-don't go back-what else is missing? Replace with a scotts damper. IMGP0315.jpg :nono:

Go to a local lowes hardware or similar. Check the hardware section for cabinet hole plugs. Made to snap in. You'll find them in plastic and metal and super cheap. I've used them before for exact same purpose.

Also check the electrical section at the local hardware store for rubber caps and plugs. Definitely go back to the dealer, if they can't find yours they can order a new one on their dime.

Just buy the plug if the dealer won't replace it.
Same plug came out on the VF1000R and has been used on dozens of bikes since.

When you call, ask to speak to the mechanic who worked on your bike not the sales dudes, parts dudes or finance dude and especially not the owner or any of his relatives.

They probably have one of those caps in stock for $39.95 + tax..

or; if you know someone back there in dah Garage, they will let you have that cap for free, or maybe a five finger discount? I have spent $4.00 plus for some mickey/mini mouse bolt with an associated lock washer on it  You know what they say, "you can't tell another man how to spend his money." Just don't let the "old-lady" find out your doing it! Cheers
