Loving the VFR so far - first "sport" bike. Two things I want to try to change right away. I want a more comfortable seat and grips.

The grips are a bit too small. I'd like them to be thicker - I got big hands.
The seat... I want to keep it functionally able to be removed as it does now, but I'd LOVE for it to be more comfortable.

Any thoughts on either? I appreciate the help!

Also, I have a commander 3 on my VTX because of the custom exhaust. Would you recommend it on the stock VFR? If so, why?

I just picked up an '03 earlier this year and those were the same complaints I had. The two seat choices you have are Sargent and Corbin. I picked up a used Sargent for $150. It's a big improvement over the stock seat. I just recently did a 300 mile day with no problems. I have never run a Corbin, but the guys that do say they are comfy, although a bit harder than the Sargent.

As far as grips, I went the cheap route. I picked up a set of Grip Puppies from California Sport Touring for around $12 shipped. They are foam and slip on over the stock grips. I've had them for about 2 months now and they are great. I had to trim the right side a bit because it was sticking on the Throttlemeister, but otherwise a perfect fit.

    Hope this helps.

Where are you at in Chicago? We should get out for a ride sometime.

Thanks. I will look into those seats. The grips seem like a good stop-gap for now. I'd like to get permanent grips that are thicker, but that could do for now.

I actually live in Arlington Heights now, but I have a place downtown as well - in the Old Town neighborhgood. I'm definitely up for riding. I'll be going up to Lake Geneva this weekend but I'll be taking the VTX. As much as I love my new toy, it's simply not to where I can take it on long trips yet :(

Not sure if those will fit my 2007, but I am definitely going to look at eBay. I definitely need a new seat - this Honda crap is killing me. I did the same thing on my other bikes - the seat was the first to change :)

I've ridden on both Corbin & Sargent.

After this, I wouldn't put a Corbin on a riding lawnmower. The Sargent is so much better that I can't find adequate words to describe how much better it is. Compared to the stock sheet of plywood that came on the bike, the Sargent is so far superior that Honda should be ashamed of themselves for installing in on my bike.

Maybe seats are like helmets. who knows? Arai fits me better than ANY helmet on the market so that's what I wear. Sargent fits my butt so that's what I ride on.

For grips, I use $10 ProGrips from the local dealer. Ther're non gel but are very comfortable. I want to say the ProGrip part# is 669 but I'm not sure. Since I'm 8000 miles from home, I can't give you the exact part number.

    KC-10 FE out...

I am 45 years young and I have toured 10k this year on my 05 VFR. Sargent is the best seat, I say that after trying the corban first. I have bad hands so for me the grip is the foam grips for a AVT. On the trottlle side take the hard plastic liner out the fit perfect. They cost about 8 bucks. Speed Safe. Will

Harris performance makes "VFR" logo grips for about $25.00. Bought some last week but have not installed them yet. Waiting for some other mods in the mail to do all at once.

I had the Harri's grips on my bike. They looked cool but they faded & yellowed significantly over the course of 2 years. They looked like crap when I replaced them with the $10 ProGrips.

    Food for thought.

    KC-10 FE out...

Just did 6,600 miles on a 7 year old Corbin and it really really hurt...

The only thing that saved me was the gel-padded bicycle shorts I picked up halfway cross country. Go get a pair in the meantime.

Thanks for the tips folks. I have the Sargents on order and got some good Gel grips I saw a friend had on his bike. I'll let you all know how it goes. I just can't ride on these Honda seats much longer :)

No doubt you have found a seat and grip by now but i just wanted to add my comment on the subject.
I had a seat re-upholtered and my grips are actually harley-davidson grips that i did modified and added on myself, they are thicker I also have big hands. the seat is better and the grips, i think, set the bike off even more. Check out my pics if you are interested. I am currently seeking to add some pipes and a power commander in the future. i am think laser exhaust to add a fierce look.
    thanks

Ok, just an update. The ProGrips and Sargent seat were both VERY good investments. I love that seat - it's like night-and-day compared to the stock seat. The grips are nice - perfect feel and shock absorbtion. I got the grey-and-black "gel" type grips from ProGrip.
