Wrist Worries

    Does anyone else have problems holding their wrists at the angle that the VFR clip-ons come with? I am used to riding bikes with flat bars or motorcycles with clip-ons not swept back so far. It seems like it would be better for my wrists if I could loosen them, angle them out another 5 degrees, and still clear everything at full steering.

    Has anyone tried this? :confused:

    try some bar risers,one or two guys over this way have spoken about the same problem as you have, and after fitting these risers they say it's a lot better.

    Remove the clip ons. On the underside of the clip on is an allen head screw that engages in a slot in the top triple clamp. It prevents changing the angle very much. Remove those. Reinstall and angle forward as far as you like...until the bars smack the fairing. You can get 5 degrees easily, probably more like ten. You can also leave the circlips off the top of the fork tubes and slide the clip ons to the very top of the tubes. Costs nothing and is much more comfortable. Aftermarket risers are like 100 bucks!

    You probably have wider shoulders than most people and bikes are designed for "most people".

    thanks for the advise! I am trying to avoid risers since I actually like having my arms a bit lower, it isnt so much the pressure on my wrists that hurts, it is the angle in that they have to bend. It is like the position your wrists are at while typing, with your hands angled out.
    FlameFace- I will try all of that, thanks bigtime, yes, I have very wide shoulders so that is probably it! I wonder if I have to remove any of the controls and so on to loosen and remove the clipons.... I will have to check out the service manual.

    You will not need to remove any of the controls.

    The bolt/screw may actually be a torx drive tho' so you might need a torx in a socket.

    I also angled my controls down to benefit my wrists and the raising of the clip-on on the fork tube lets you angle the controls down further than you could otherwise. The limiting factor is the front brake reservoir/cylinder hits the top triple clamp. The left side will angle further down but I like them both the same.

    Err..

    Not the set up I've seen as standard on any VFR 3rd Gen onwards..the engagement tab is cast in as part of the bar - you'd have to grind it off to do as you suggest.
