Just wondering if anybody has or has used a KBC Laguna or HJC Elbowz helmet. I saw them while I was watching the AMA Superbike race last week on Speed. The pricing for the Laguna seems reasonable, the HJC is Carbon, more $$$. Since they kinda match my bike I am probably going to replace my old helmet with one of these two since its falling apart and it would be kinda nice to match the bike. My old KBC Vr-1 is rough now.... Lining is separating around the visor etc. Thanks for the help. I'm heading out for a ride now, 72 and sunny today!!!

If you want a helmet that lasts, get a Shoei (or even an Arai). None of that Chinese crap (HJC/Icon/etc).

That being said, there might be some Chinese crap worth looking at -- the Scorpion EXO-1000. That is if you can hold out for another month or two for them to hit the stores to try on. Wish I could have before I had to replace my helmet least month.

My vote, Shoei RF-1000. Probably one of the more quiet and comfortable lids on the market.

    What's with the Llama? :llama:

One of the guys at work rides with the HJC carbon. He has the plain version. I tried it on, light weight but the fit was a little off for my melon. If it fits your head I think it would be a good lid. I bought a Shark RSR2 about a month ago and am very happy with it. Good luck and give us a report on what ever you end up with.

I have had 8 shoei helmets for on and off road. right now i have the X-11 model. Although it was a little pricey i wouldnt trade it for the world. A friend has a KBC and although its a well made helmet they tend to be on the shallow side so it keeps a little too much pressure on the forehead causing some discomfort. As for the HJC my wife has a HJC carbon its an ok helmet but there is MUCH better out there for a bit more money.

Get the lid that fits your mellon!
I've been through 3 Arai helmets and converted to Shoei this past winter. I have been happy with them all, but have to agree with the comments about the Shoei being the most quiet.
Killer deals can be had on RF-1000 right now. I got a Red Nerve graphic model for under $300.

I have a Shoei RF-1000 and the wind noise makes my eardrums shake. I can't even hear my Ipod past 70mph.

That doesn't sound right at all. You using the stock windscreen still?

EVERY helmet is loud inside at speed, so you should ride with earplugs or earbuds that create a noise reducing seal. (the stock ipod buds really really suck on bikes)

The RF1000 is one of the quietest helmets on the market.

I generally ride with the tinted visor cracked. I use Chatterbox headset inside the helmet. I hate earplugs, I want to hear my music with the Micron exhaust in the background. Maybe I'll try Arai next?

+1. We bought the wife an Hjc because she doesnt ride with me much, I throw it on for rare rides to the store at night since I use a tinted visor on my RF1000 Shoei. HUGE difference in comfort and quality, just night and day. My next will be an Arai. A cheap helmet's better than no helmet, but if your going to wear it for several years spend the money.
My only complaint is the wind noise with the Shoei, maybe a larger windscreen? nah.

I concur! I've been using an RF-1000 for over 30,000 miles and it is indeed quiet and comfy.

I just got an RF-1000 about 1500 miles ago to replace an RF-800, which I had used for 30,000 miles. The RF-1000 is indeed amazingly quiet (but I still use ear plugs for wind noise - my hearing is bad). Seems very stable too.

Hey, we got us a helmet thread going here!

Haha, yes sir we do. Just to confirm I use ear plugs also.

I'll give you all some background as to my loyalty to my RF-1000. As stated, I had this helmet for actually well over 30,000 miles. I just remembered I bought the helmet when I bought a 1000RR back in late '04. I put 8,000 miles on that bike BEFORE buying my CBR1100XX which I then put 30,000 miles on.

Anyway, when I bought my VFR, the previous owner threw in a barely used ICON Mainframe helmet which matches the bike perfectly. However, after using it a few times here and there, I still grab my old, nasty, stinky, scratched, nearly falling apart Shoei. Even with all the miles, two bumps on the pavement from the track and the chin vent that wants to fall out, it's still a better helmet than the new ICON. Way less wind noise and way more overall comfort. I should wash my Shoei sometime in the next 30,000 miles

If anyone says VFRworld stinks, now we know why.

    :yo:

(just kidding 2-4-1, I'm guessing it doesn't start to smell bad until you hit 50K)

Hahah! Well I washed in Saturday. I was cleaning up my kitchen, saw my helmet sitting there and I was reminded of the post I had made. No more facial funk for me!

Multitec - I demo'd, yes I demo'd a Multitec helmet at a local BMW dealership. Basically it's a quieter version of the Syncrotec. To me the Syncrotec was no louder than my rf-1000 for comparison. Both great lids! I've been trying to snag a used Syncrotec on Ebay for some time now.
