I am somewhat interested in a new VFR800. a local dealer has a '14 for $9900. I looked on cycletrader an there are 189 '14s for sale. why aren't these great bikes selling? another dealer near by never even had any in stock.

I really don't understand why they're not selling at the reduced prices. Yes, the MSRP was too high, but at $10k, it is a pretty good deal on a remarkable bike. I love mine, even though I paid over $12k for it last year. If you can get a DLX for under $10k, go for it. I promise you won't regret it!

It is because the VFR is in a niche market. Most people gravitate to the CBR line of products. The VFR is a mature bike that is not a great racer or tourer. It just does everything well. It has a solid reputation for being great for what it is and I would not let the low sales volume affect your decision.

I'm sure they aren't flying off the shelves, but it's been pretty obvious from the forums here that the 8th gen is selling well relative to previous VFRs. If I had the money to spare and could find a way to get the pipe out of the way of the seat, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I bought my VFR800F DLX back in March, I've logged 3800 miles on it, and I love it. I paid $12K OTD, and felt that was fair, not great, but fair.

I rode a sports bike before I bought it, and while it isn't quite as sharp in the canyons, it does eat up the twisties pretty good. Being in SoCal, I don't have to ride too far to get into some great roads, but the 200 mile days that would have me headed for home on the ZX7R are just an appetizer on the VFR. The trouble is now, I can't find anybody to do those longer days.

I think there are several reasons it doesn't sell very good:
It doesn't win any category. Not HP, not speed, not handling, not commuting, not touring, not adventure riding. In each of those categories, anyone on this forum can name at least half a dozen or more bikes that surpass the VFR. For most people, the VFR is a compromise. While I love my VFR, it was not my first choice in bikes, in other words, I settled for the VFR because it would do all of the things I needed a motorcycle to do. Before I bought, I literally had a list of all the things my next bike needed to do: Great handling, comfortable enough for long distance solo, comfortable enough for day rides 2up, look good sitting in the garage, stellar dependability, etc. The bikes I considered: Daytona 675R, Kawi 636, CBR1000RR, Ninja 1000. See the problem? I couldn't go more than two days without changing my mind about which bike I should buy.

Then one day someone texted me a pic of the VFR800F with the caption, "Too bad they aren't selling this in the US." I loved the look, but No USD? As a sport bike rider this wouldn't do, I thought. The local Honda dealer finally received one in late 2014, and while seeing it in person confirmed that I loved the look, and it would check most of the other boxes on my list; in my mind, it still fell short on handling performance. If it hadn't been for my brother, who absolutely rips on a ZZR1200 with conventional forks, I might have never bought my VFR. I might have compromised on looks, or comfort, or reliability. So now I am shopping for Wibers, or Penske, or Race Tech suspension parts in order to achieve better handling, but I am loving the VFR more every day.

So you see, my tale of how I ended up with a VFR is not a ringing endorsement, a catchy advert, or a drooling magazine article that makes the knee draggers, the tour folks, or the commuters run out and drop $10-15K.

For me I needed a 500 pound or lighter bike-small garage. And I wanted one great bike to save money on tax. It had to be a around do everything. even the vfr stock comes short on that, but everything on a vfr can be custom to fit rider. also used only to save dough and abs to save my butt in bad oil roads, gravel. only a few bikes could do this. Yamaha 1300, triumph st1050-expensive. a few others. the triumph I really liked that one. But a used vfr 800 abs 06 black was very nice for not really that much dough-I knew it would have to be fixed up for me to ride it. I am only now close to succeeding. The helibars and peg lowering, I just did change the whole bike along with sargent seat-it rides very nice and is fast-does everything well.:lever: a new vfr for $10000 is a great deal.

I just visited my local Multi-brand dealer here in Southern California.

4 weeks ago they had 3 CBR600RR's, one was a '14, and two where '15's. They also had ONE '14 VFR800 Deluxe. Upon my return they had sold all three CBR600RR's, while the '14 VFR800 Deluxe was still sitting there waiting for an owner. It's too bad I wasn't in the market for a VFR800.

I personally believe there is anything wrong with the current VFR800. Honda just about improved most of everything we all griped about regarding the 6th Generation VFR800. It's lighter, lower center of gravity, improved suspension, improved engine and fueling, modern styling, they kept the SSSA and the dual headlights. They made it more compact.

    My only grips are:
They should have kept the twin, underseat exhaust.
They should have AT LEAST matched or slightly increased the top end power. Instead they lowered the top end in order to spread the torque more. Why? The bike is lighter! It needs more torque? As a result the current VFR800 is slower than the 6th Gen.

So one giant step forward for the VFR800. And two smell steps backwards.

I'll decide next year whether to replace my 6th Gen with another VFR.

I doubt the new model 2014 is much lighter than my 06, . First thing I did was junk the exhaust for a carbon 2 bos-right there 19 pounds less,. how much does the new model now weighs- oh 30 pds lighter?-325 chain saves weight but my 320 and light weight sprocket saves more, my shoie battery is 5 pds. Almost dead even now. add 2 teeth to sprockets has same lower end too. I think the change from 5th to 6th was much more different.

going by the Honda specs posted-2006 107 HP, 2014 103HP due to a even more piece of junk muffler-I guess or perhaps some other power robbing device. So yes the 2014 is quite a bit slower than my 06. piper cross air filter and 2 bos carbon are bound to add some power too. add scotts damper, helibars and lower pegs and don't see any reason at all to buy a 06-09 over a 2014. A nice used on with low miles is $6,000 or less.
