Hey I just picked up 2 bikes. A 84 750 and 85 700. The 700 is running good and the 750 needs some work. ANYWAY. the 700 needs tires. I'd like to go slightly fatter in the back. The current size is 130/80/18 what is the widest tire I can stick back there? I'm sure I'll have more when I have to put the clutch in the 750.

nice looking bikes my friend! Congrats. Usually you can go up at least one size, best thing to do would be to check clearances on the swingarm and then find a aspect ratio calculator online see what stock width was, calc the difference and then play around with sizes. Hope that helps some.

And before you go off riding cut off the connector between the stator and rec/reg, then solder and heatshrink your stator to rec/reg wires

You can go to a 140/80 on that wheel. Do not go 140/70. It fits, but the rim just isn't wide enough, and the profile suffers.

I know because I did it. It works and never felt weird, but it just isn't ideal. That tire is going on an 86 VFR that has the the rim width to support it.

That's fine. Tire charts will show the rim (2.50 x 16) is in the "acceptable" range for the 120/80. It's what I run on most of my bikes with that rim.

You may get some people saying otherwise, but I have been running those for decades with zero issues.
The 110 (especially in the Avon) is a solid choice though.

I don't think that's a problem on the first gens.

Welcome to the 1st gen club! The 1st gens are the best, you'll love 'em! :congratulatory:

You have the original exhaust on the 700, that's cool! How about some more details on them, mileage, where you found 'em...that kinda good stuff. Where abouts are you located?

The 700 seems to be in original condition, it has 9300 miles on it. It runs very good. It needs tires bad, these hold air but are cracked up form sitting. The guy I got both bikes from is a hoarder/collector....lol He's had the bike (inside) for at least 5 years. The 750 seems to of had close to $1000 in engine work, then the owner wore.blew the clutch out and decided the best course of action was to slam his helmet into the gas tank. The paint on the 750 is great, so if anybody has a tank please let me know. Besides the clutch (which I have) it needs a throttle assembly (already bought) and a battery. It has after market mufflers, I was told they are good and loud. Not really needing that. I bought both form the same guy, I only wanted the 700 but he made such a good deal on the 750 I couldn't say no. I basically got the 750 for $500. They are from lower Pa near the Md line. I plan on riding the 700 and fixing the 750. Then I'll decide which one to sell and which one to keep. The 750 has just over 11k on it.
