So last August I was out for a ride close to home and noticed something funky going on when applying the rear brake. The rear would wobble a bit and there was clearly something wrong. As I accelerated from the next red light I heard something clink, looked behind me but didn't see anything (the car behind me had backed off quite a bit) and I turned the corner and made it home using the front brake. Upon inspection I noticed the rear caliper had almost fallen off, and the caliper mount had at least 1 missing screw and appeared to have been ripped out of whatever it was mounted to (yikes!). This all happened after an inspection a month or so prior and I had recently bled the brakes.

I haven't ridden since and am now starting to try to repair the damage. I went ahead and ordered a new caliper and mount bracket, but am truly confused now as I'm trying to install the mount. I've gone through the brake and rear wheel sections of the manual a couple times and for the life of me can't figure out what part (last picture) is currently attached to the rear wheel of my bike. I bought the bike off Craigslist originally and am wondering if this is even the original wheel or if the owner replaced it and used some kind of conversion kit to mount the rear caliper.

I'm a total noob and was hoping you guys could give some insight as to what's going on here and some advice on what to do. Thanks so much for any help, I'll really appreciate it.

EDIT: This part looks like the likely culprit: http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/images/VF500F_rear_bracket.jpg

Reference this thread, in particular post #45. Also post #54 has a link to JD's website with a pic of the bracket installed.

Looks like your 500's wheels have been swapped with a CBR600.

Yeah, that looks like a really early version of my wheel kit - except not all the pieces are there! You are missing the part that goes into the guide on the swingarm. You'll either need to find it or give me a call and I can talk to you about getting a replacement.

Ah, that's what it was starting to look like, thanks! Don't think there's any hope of finding the missing part. I'm not sure if different versions of your wheel kit are compatible, so would I be able to get a newer version of the caliper mount or would I need to replace the older version/missing pieces?
