Things like this are only worth what somebody is prepared to pay, finding the person who wants to put it in a collection is the hard part

For comparison, a 5th gen in top shape with 20k on it would be worth around $3000 give or take...

That said, if I found an under 10k, 1999 model, I might be willing to go up to $4k for it, if it was outstanding.

I thought 2k come in yellow :noidea:
My guess would be 4k to 5k. Some collector would pay more as mention above.
    Great looking bike :thumb:

If the dealer says it's worth 5K, is that what they are offering or is that just an opinion?

Several of the sites that can be checked of auto prices also have bike pricing. Try Google and use specific operators+ wanted or for sale.

Well I saw a 1500 mile TR6 triumph in a auto repair shop-the tires rotted off and had new tires on and a napa battery-. They trade stuff like this and big dollors for old stuff but unless it falls over a few times its not a vfr. I would place the value more like $6500 and maybe more.:painkiller:

If you guys are wanting to sell it perhaps your dealership would be willing to put it on consignment for you. Another thought, trailer it to a bike event or car show in your area and have flyers to hand out that have the history behind the bike. You might find some interest there.

What a waste of a lovely bike!

Motorcycles are for riding, not ornamental purposes...

The bike is fifteen years old no matter what the condition. Even if everything is up to snuff. As soon as you put miles on it, it becomes another used 15 year old VFR and will reflex the price range of other 15 year old bikes. So some buyers may think that way.

It would be worth it to a collector who wants a pristine bike may be for their museum/collection.

the bike is in Canada so they had red color over there in 2000. The dealer toll us to sell it for $5K, they don't want it.

The exchange rate is 1.21:1 so the bike would be in the 4K range in USD. This and any registration fees and other paperwork necessary to bring a used bike into the US.

Has the bike been started up and run for a while? Curious as to how an engine that has sat idle for almost 15 years will hold up. Unless it was properly fogged and sealed I have to wonder as to how gaskets, seals, ect. will respond to the expansion/contraction cycle of daily riding. A true test for Honda engineering.

Import/Export Info. Overkill, I know. Just in case inquiring minds want to know....

Not much needed to import from Canada to the U.S.. Bill of sale, title(ownership), and a letter from the manufacturer stating that there are no outstanding recalls for that particular VIN and that that vehicle meets all U.S. highway safety regualations, and you are good to go. I am not even sure there are any fees on the U.S. side. Take all of your paperwork to your local DMV and getr done! ...as long as the vehicle was made in North America, or made for the North American market.
Going from the U.S. to Canada is a different ball game. Buyer or seller needs to fax the VIN to border patrol office where the vehicle is going to be crossing into Canada. The office requires 3 days to research the VIN to ensure it does not have any outstanding "issues" associated with that vehicle(i.e. liens, stolen, involved in a current investigation etc etc). After 3 days(it can be done in less, but this is what they suggest) you can call them and they will tell you if the vehicle is clear to be exported.
When buyer shows up at the U.S. side of the border they are strongly suggested to stop in at the border patrol office with the vehicle title, bill of sale, manufacturer recall letter...and of course, the vehicle. The border patrol office will do a quick verification of the vehicle and VIN, and then they will emboss your paperwork to show the Canadian border services that the vehicle has been cleared by the U.S. system to be exported to Canada.
Buyer rolls accross the bridge and meets the border patrol booth to claim what they are importing. Highly recommended you don't fudge numbers to pay less tax, don't ask me how I know. Once you claim you are importing a vehicle, they will give you a colored paper(usually yellow) and tell you to drive into the border services compound. Enter the office and begin the paperwork to import.
Patrol officer will fill out the forms for you, you just provide the needed documents. If the vehicle was made in North America, or made for the North American market, there will be no duty(thanks to Free Trade Agreement). You will have to pay a one time import fee to RIV(Registrar of Imported Vehicles). This fee is to pay for the registration of the vehicle to change from a U.S. VIN into a Canadian VIN. That way, it will be in the system when you go to the license bureau to put it in your name. This fee has been $200 for many years, not sure if it has changed lately though.
Buyer/importer will have the option to pay one of two taxes on the spot. I believe you do not have to pay either one, but they will allow you to pay one of them if you want to. Can't remember if it was the provincial or federal tax you can pay, but one of them. They will get all of your documents in order and then send you on your way home. It will take up to 3 weeks for the Registrar of Imported Vehicles to process your paperwork. Start calling them after the first week to get updates. Do this because they will not notify you if your paperwork was incomplete. Your importation will simply go into an incomplete file for eternity....or until you call them for an update. Bug them and that way you will know if there are any hang ups.
Once the registration is in the system the buyer will receive an email stating so and he/she will print out the email and take the vehicle to the nearest Canadian Tire for inspection. It will not be a safety check, just a verification of the VIN and vehicle type. Buyer can get the "saftey" done at this point so they can register the vehicle as "fit" at the license office. Once done at Canadian tire, the buyer heads to the license office and "buys" the vehicle as if it were a local purchase. Buyer will pay one or both taxes at this point, and any fees needed for plates etc. and the process is complete.
Total cost of importation from the U.S. to Canada(provided all paperwork goes according to plan) is $200 and 13-15% taxes(can't remember the actual number here).
If the vehicle is new or nearly new, there may be other fees involved. If the vehicle is more than 15 years old, there will likely be less fees involved because it will be classified as an "antique" and there will be either an elimination or reduction of taxes/fees for that vehicle when imported.
