    Hi,

I was wondering what the standard stock exhaust (which Honda put on this machine) look like on the VFR800 from 1998. Is it a 4-to-1 exhaust ? Or two silencers/pipes; on left and one right ?

It's 4 into 1. Headers meet under the engine & come out just behind the right side foot peg. Standard muffler is about 5" diameter chrome.

Ok TNRabbit, I asked it because I wiil buy a 1998 VFR next week. With only one exhaustpipe, and I did not know if this was an aftermarket one, or the stock one.

    Thanks for reply.

Hi Erik, welcome! Silencer is stainless, not chrome. Many of these bikes have stainless aftermarket headers because if it's really a '98 the original pipes were 4 into 1 like TNRabbit says but not stainless, so something to look out for if they haven't been replaced. Mine lasted over 60,000 miles through English winters so not too bad but the original systems on 2000-onwards VFRs can last the life of the bike. If they're shiny and don't look like this, they probably are stainless replacements.

Thank for the info guys! I can hardly wait a few days to pick up the VFR :courage: I hope that I do not regret leaving from my current XJ900F Yamaha. Does anyone recommend another exhaust with more grunt like a sport exhaust silencer on the VFR ? And if so, which one do you recommend. I am not looking for an officer to get a fine when the noise from the exhaust is over limits... But a nice sound of the exhaust is probably the only thing what is missing on a VFR ?

I wonder who has changed the original silencer for a sport exhaust with low louder noise. And what is a good brand for an aftermarket silencer? I am thinking of a high mount Bos (German brand) silencer.
