I guess this is why they include a bright orange coiled cable to affix to your disc lock and handle bar.

Thanks, yeah - they showed us how to lift dropped bikes during the Rider Course, but it seemed like a two person approach so didn't fancy that tactic. I'm far from a small guy though, and strong enough to lift it via conventional methods. But, having not needed to before and despite knowing VFRs are portly, I still underestimated the effort required.

Regarding putting the lock behind the forks, I see what you're saying, but the fact that I can still miss a luminescent yellow lock when in front of the forks does not bode well to burying it behind where it's harder to see. The orange cable is a good plan, though mine never came with one. I think i'll just put something on my key chain to remind me. It's the first time I've done this with the Viffer, but not the first time I've done it on a bike.

For those that use the locks and might forget: would something as simple as a piece of electrical tape placed over the ignition work as a reminder. Its light, it doesn't bang around, it won't mark anything, and you can simply stick it on the triple tree when underway. When you stop, put the piece of tape over the keyhole, and throw your disc lock on. When you come back to ride, the tape will serve as your reminder to unlock before you start.

My mistake. I thought they all came with one. It just runs between the lock and loops onto your throttle bar. Any piece of lamp chord would work. Even a piece of string.

I think I will talk to the mods and see if I can get the title of this thread changed to "Long as dropped his bike how many times?"

This lock position keeps you off the ground though. Doesn't matter if you see it or not, you won't get dumped if you don't.

Ahh so is THAT what those things are for. I always wondered why bikers seem to have them. I assumed people liked to see them blow in the wind or something while they're riding! :witless:

I may look into that option, because I know it's going to happen again at some point and I don't want to damage the thing again.

I also can't really argue with the logic of putting the lock behind the forks. Less momentum, less mess. Makes sense to me!

And thanks, Ducc, but it's probably easier to just find something around the home if I don't go this keyring route.

Randy: kindly, and at your earliest convenience put me down for one more drop? I swear I'm not trying to catch up with you or scuba.
I was trying to put the bike on the center stand, didn't push it back all the way, and as it came down, it leaned to the right and I was unable to catch it.
You can only laugh and rejoice only if you hook me up with a right side mirror.

If I were you, only use the center stand with someone to spot you. Strange things happen. watch out for gravel too or anything that will make your foot slip. I have not dropped my bike this year, last year it was like five times.:spider:

This is my first, and hopefully, last time I drop my bike while trying to put it on the center stand. At 5'4" and 135 lbs of solid beauty, I can do all the damage on my own.

If you have scratches, check those cats you have for lice. You may be doing this to yourself at night.

Seeing as you are vertically deprived, you may need one of these to ride.

Sliders are for pussies. I wear those scratches with pride. And, no scratches this time, no idea why, but there aren't any.
