Looking for an easy 12V switched source

I need a switched 12v source to power my GPS. Something up front on the bike with low current capability, not for heated anything. Has anyone found a good switched wire they can direct me to by photo or color code? I have a 2001 gen5. Thanks!

Straight off the battery with a fused relay. You could tap into the taillight wire for the relay. Check out easternbeaver.com Send an Email to Jim Davis and explain what you are trying to do and he will make up a very nice solution for what you need.

 

I was hoping for something at the front of the bike, dash area. Thanks for the suggestion.

 

Pull the fairing and have a poke around with a test light you will find power somewhere in there with the ignition on, positive side of one of the coils? plenty of places

 

Just put a USB power point on mine today in the fairing. Picked up off the feed to the fan switch on top of the left hand radiator. That feeds only used when the fan is on which is not often (especially in the UK!)

 

I thinks what Norc was saying is that you need a power source that isn't always on. If you just wire from the battery, there will always be a draw on the battery. If you tap into something as simple as the taillight, power is only provided when the bike is on.

But then again, math isn't my strong suit.

 

A lot of Hondas will have an extra brown and green combo in the headlight area. Same colors as the rear license light. I know some of them were for Euro front running lights.
