    Hey guys!

Unfortunately I don't bear photos as I introduce myself. I searched around a little bit, but didn't see a lot of info about odometer tampering in specific.

I'm looking to purchase a 6th gen VFR and in my search, I stumbled upon a few that are very low miles, like 9000 miles for a 2003, 5000 miles for 2004 etc. And asking price varying between $4300ish to $5000-ish.

Then on the other end of the spectrum there are 16k-30k+ being listed for $5500-6000 etc.

I googled for odo tampering and it seems it's somewhat non-trivial to tamper with the odo. There's even an ebay listing offering to reprogram the miles on the VFR!

I watched this video about watching out for odometer tampering and seems to be very useful : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMrn7kgIlps

I was trying to decide between this, a CB 599 and an SV650. So far I'm really really tempted by the VFR but I'm paranoid about getting milked.

Any resources I should be looking at?

    Thank you and hello!!

    For 5K you can get a 2006
ODO tempering is against the LAW. However it could happen
The only way to tell if it is original is service records and the condition of the bike.
Many member here found bike that decade old but in pristine condition :party2: and low mileages.
Go take a look at the bike ride them if you can take a lot of pictures and posted here.
What are the Mods (Falkes) come with the bike....etc

I guess any bike could have the odo messed with, but there does seem to be a fair amount of these VFRs around with relatively low mileage. When I bough my model year 2000 in 2008, it had 5400 miles on it.

My suggestion would be to use common sense. If the seller is acting like an idiot, lives in a shed, can't spell, talks about doing stoppies and wheelies through 3rd gear and then says its only got 2000 original miles on it, then yea I'd be concerned. I get that anyone could change an odo if they wanted to, but you get the idea. Judge the character and the bike.

I'll look around a little more for a newer bike. Doesn't come with much, but it was dropped on both sides, with only light scratches, no cracks, and has a dealer service recently.

    Good advice.

Currently I have the vin number for the bike, and autocheck does show some service records, I'm not sure about motorcycle related history and it's relevance though. Hesitant to pony up for the subscription.

I do see some that are 16-18000 miles. I suppose that's not a big number as far as these bikes are concerned?

The bike still has the 2005 recall open, this was regarding the brake related PCV.

Here's another option I was considering, this is different from the one I mentioned earlier : http://www.cyclecrazy.com/2003-Honda-ebay.asp

    Thanks for the warm welcome!
