If that noise is new then I would definitely open it up again to investigate - as it suggests something is not right, and could be expensive if you don't find and fix the cause. Once it is open, get a decent flashlight and examine for any signs of scraping on all moving components. Check everything is seated correctly, and none of the bolts are loose, then check the correct routing and placement of the yellow wires and rubber seal. If you are lucky the gasket will not have been baked on by engine heat and will separate OK without needing to replace it.

FYI: it's not the stator that is faulty as much as the CONNECTORS. Loose connections are what causes the stator to fry in the first place. I would DILIGENTLY check all connectors (cut out & solder are best option) & make sure they are good & tight & install a voltmeter to keep an eye on things. Good time to do "The Drill" as well.

What brand of Stator did you use as replacement? Did you replace R/R as well? Curious because i'm doing the same thing. Bought a Procom (electrosport) stator and am waiting for delivery. I also bought a cheap Chinese R/R from ebay but it sounds like the Yamaha R1 R/R is the better choice.

You don't need an R/R how do you know every chance a fried stator like that took the R/R out again. As you seem to be avoiding the question I will ask again, have you removed the connector and soldered and heatshrunk the yellow wires, if not you will head down the same path again, gets expensive after a couple of goes

    Norm,

I just bought a Super Mosfet from roadstercycle to go along with my new stator. I think you have convinced me to solder and heat shrink the connections from stator to R/R. Thanks

Tested the R/R with a meter as instructed and all readings where ok. No need to replace.

    Glad you got it sorted.

If you want to keep an eye on the electrics - you might consider fitting a cheap volt meter from eBay.

Otherwise step away from the toolbox and take that VFR for a ride!
