Tents?? Yeah, I know some riders here like camping while on the road and I'm looking for input on what works for all weather conditions, is compact and light weight and if it's worth spending big money for one.
Riding to six or seven states the last week of June and have plenty of time to read your comments. Ideas on camping stoves and essentials are also welcomed.
    Thanks

Best tent I ever had. https://www.bigagnes.com
First wedding anniversary and the wife gave me the one man tent. I thought that was a message of some kind.

Tell me about it tinker. I been eyeing a quarter dome from REI, I travel by myself and don't need much space to sleep.

When traveling by VFR I usually prefer motel rooms. I can't believe what some places get for a camp site these days!

Not the best of pictures, but I for the most part lived in this single person tent for 5 weeks when I retired in 2012, then again for three weeks last year. REI has some great stuff. Our equivelent, Mountain Equipment Co-op has similar stuff. This tent, a good mountaineering sleeping bag rated for -3C and an air matress kept me very warm. Matter for fact, even when I camped in Yousemete, I found that I had to completely open the fly door becaue I was too warm. ANd I think the temps there at night plunged to freezing each night I was there. When you shop for a sleeping bag, get one that has a hood for covering your head.

Word of caution. Try not to fart in that small confined space.

My sleeping bag is similar to this but rated for -3 not -10

I think this is the tent I got

I looked at stoves but there is only so much room to pack thinkgs on a bike and I was loaded to the hilt, so the campstove had to stay on the store shelf.

Motel prices can be all over the map. Tent prices too. Look for motels off the main drags and what were the main drags. The six in Motel Six is the tax or the rent fee for the 12" B&W TV.

Google "camp stoves" and "camping cookware" for more info than you will need. Camp stove ads should be read carefully. There are some small ones that are actually small until ya figure that ya gotta carry a dozen pressurized cannisters of gas to run them. Same deal with cookware. Does one really need Titanium?

For saving a few pesos, most militaries around the world have both types of gear. Stoves that will burn darn near everything and cookware that doubles as tableware.

I just ordered this. I figure it's all I need but we'll see if I upgrade later on. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WYJS2U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For the stove, I bought a etekforce or some such: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4FY8YO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works great. I just bought a simple mess kit for cooking on it. This thing is tiny, tiny. Takes up no space. Folds up and fits in small plastic box smaller than box of home matches.

For sleeping bag, I bought this mummy bag and it fits easily in one of my side bags: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007JTLKCC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It weighs less than 3 lbs and works fine, but be advised it is not that slick material of most bags. It is some type of cloth and it would tear up if you put it on the ground.

I also bought a rotopax for carrying extra fuel and this thing is pretty awesome. It fits on my rack and the side bags still open yet it gives me another 2 gals and it was under $100 for the can and the mount. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YBMDRU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002TTU96A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then I keep bungee net and some bungees cords and an igloo med sized cooler.

    That about does it.

I have done a lot of camping, hiking and climbing and used a lot of different manufacturers.

My last 2 tents have been Sierra Designs and have held up to some extreme use. Here is a link to some of their back packing tents, scroll to the bottom for singles.
    http://www.sierradesigns.com/tents/backpacking

My next tent may be a North Face. These are pretty bad ass tents that are very versatile for temperature and conditions.

For stoves I have again used a shit ton in the mountains and the Reactor by MSR (Mountain Safety Research) is the best I have ever used by far. Though expensive it really stands up to wind, rain, altitude and abuse. Boils water insanely fast. Their new Wind Boiler may be the ticket for solo travel.

For sleeping I use a Thermarest by Cascade Designs (now the parent company of MSR too).

    http://www.cascadedesigns.com/therm-a-rest/mattresses/trek-and-travel/category

Sleeping bag is a Serria Designs down bag with Dri-down. I use to only take synthetics into the wild in case it got wet I would survive, but with dri-down it is not as critical.

Its coming out soon and will project on the inside surface of your tent. But you have to buy a white tent.
