    I dont know if this little trick has been posted before,
    (i haven't seen it here anyway)
    I found the trick on the CBR Forum, and just had to share it with the rest of the gang incase this hasn't been posted here.
    The trick way to mount them is using a Laser pointer to pinpoint the mark on the fairing where you need to drill.
    See pics:
    * Remove body panel
    * Mount laser pointer to camera tripod
    * Shoot laser beam at center of mounting bolt where slider mounts.
    * Reinstall body panel
    * Shoot laser back onto panel and mark.
    * Tape and drill.
    * BAM ! PERFECTION ! :biggrin:

    I know I will regret it eventually but I haven't been able to convince myself to cut holes in my coolant bottle and my cowlings to mount sliders. I know they usually aren't as strong but I thought I had seen some sliders for the 6thGen that mounted on brackets so no cutting was necessary. Does anyone have a link where I might find that style?

    ive seen those that your talking about. i dont remember the link either, but i didnt like those too much. i think they were too close to where your legs are, plus i thought someone posted a thread on here how those sliders broke his leg cause of the position when he laid his bike down. i think the extra money and drilling holes in the body would be worth it if i dont break my leg.

    i like my R&G ones though. they came with a new coolant bottle but cost about $200 total.

    Another 'trick' is to back out the factory bolt far enough to touch the fairing (you may have to use a longer bolt in order to do this). Put some paint/lipstick on the head of the bolt so it makes a mark on the fairing. Also heard of using a bit of clay stuck to the fairing to record the impression of the bolt head. Either way, this gives you a reliable mark for the center location.

    I know this will probably sound stupid but I put some in the bolt holes on the fairings closets to my leg. Had to get longer bolts of course and I used a large washer. I laid the bike down before I had it and that bracket on bent a little so I figured they would hold up for the most part if I laid it down again. Yes I took the cheaper way out for the time being.

    Those appear to replace a fairing bolt. That kind won't do much of anything in a crash. Fairing brackets will not support the weight of the bike once its on its side; the fairing bracket will bend in a tip-over and that little bobbin will fold in or easily get ripped out.
