    Hi.

I'm having troubles with the fu**ing stator and I need to open the motor to extract it.

As well as we know, when you open something with a gasket we should change it. The problem is that this replacement in Spain cost almost 30 USD  so I wanna do my own gasket.

There are some sheet gasket that cost about 6USD max and is possibl to fabric +8 gaskets. Does anyone know the original thickness of the gasket?

    Thank you!

Just an oil-safe silicone form-a-gasket & be done with it.

Lot's of ways to go! Just clamp down the side cover to a piece of cardboard and it will work just fine. You can go to an auto parts store and buy a flat sheet of gasket material. Clamp down the side cover to the material and release the clamps and cut out the impression made by the cover.

Do you have hole cutting punches? I have made several gaskets for older Hondas, you need to punch those holes first, make sure they all line up before spending time cutting the shape. Also check after market suppliers on the net in Europe, I am sure there has to one in the UK.

I bought a set of cutting punches from louis.de

The gasket here is very expensive, as I said it cost around 30USD so I preffer to try before spent that bunch of money.

You are on the right track, if you are desperate, you can use a hard material like a file folder, or hanging folder, then spray it with clear rattle can spray when done cutting.

Note: Puch tools are needed for making the screw holes.

Well, thank you to everyone. Now I'm just waiting to receive the new stator.

Hey Allyance your idea reminded of an old gasket trick I learned back in the 70's. CB 750 Hondas were notorious for head gasket leaks. They would always weep oil. A friend told me to spray the gasket with high heat paint first. I used white. That edge of the gasket remained white the rest of the time I had the bike. Never leaked a drop. So if your making a gasket for a high heat area use high heat paint.

So you recommend spray with high heat paint? It is true that this gasket is like carton folder.

Doesn't get that hot in stator area. Regular paint will work fine. The paint will seal pores in the gasket , especially if you made it with a foriegn material. Remember, aluminum on aluminum if milled flat barely needs a gasket. The gasket just covers for impefections and scratches.
