So last year I decided it was time to get back on a bike...what bike was the debate. Growing up I remember the all the buzz and nostalgia of the 80s sport bikes. I remember the flash and sound of them. I still to this day remember my dads V45/V65....
I decided that I wanted that old school feel and started looking for a piece of history. For a long time I frequented the pages of ebay and CL looking for an Interceptor, Hurricane or GPZ. Not much came up in my area or age group. It proved they were a little hard to find...especially in fair shape.
Well a few months ago I saw an 87 VFR on CL a few hours from the house. Price was good so I jumped all over it!!!! WOOHOO I got an old VFR...I was stoked!!!! As happy as one could be I headed up to get the bike when what do you know...a Hurricane for sale in the same area...1.5 miles from the VFR....price was stellar!! UNBELIEVABLE...two of three I wanted, just like that.
Well the 87 VFR needed some cosmetics, had been dropped on the old brittle fairing a few times. other than that it was nice. The hurricane was in good shape, a little rash on one side... The owner took a low soled slide. It just needed some decals ,TLC , and some touch up.
On the ride home we hit a BAD spot in the road and the bikes went down in the trailer. VFR plastic taking it hard.
I decided for the vfr this year I was going to epoxy the fairing to fix the bad spots and over the summer buy all new bodywork (little shocked on the price for all new). Give it some paint/vinyl and decals and ride it.

Posting pics from a phone is tough. Please excuse the mess in my shop. Too many winter projects during this Long cold winter!

Plenty more work to do on both. As soon as the temps warm I am going to change all the fluids and clean them up better. Possible a 4-1 exhaust if I find one at a good price. Boy parts come hard!!!

You're makin good progress. You need to watch the Hurricane for chain-tensioner problems.

It seems that the fork seals are leaking on the VFR. Going to need to get it in to have them done. Anything else I should look for? Is the R/R an issue on the 87

Finally I got the VFR out for a short ride this afternoon. It felt soo nice. Very smooth power. I had no clue what to expect...it is great. And it sounds so nice too!!!!

Currently the 'cane is pretty well stripped and getting many new parts. packages are starting to arrive and I should have it back together in a few weeks.

It will be fun to compare the two!
