Thought I was going to see wheelies and stoppies. lol My son rode my VFR for the first time last year, He has a DRZ 400 and it was a big change. He kept it for almost 2 weeks! Wondered if I was going to get it back. Put hundreds of miles on it.

The bikes on his inaugural VFR ride. I wonder how long before he wants a CBR test ride......

Is that a little Ferrari sticker I see. Im looking on my phone so its hard to see. Nice bike just like the one I had only mine was 02. I let my son ride mine when he was 17. I wasn't worried because he has been riding since he was 6 years old. I really miss mine got taken out by a left turn car.:frown-new:

Yes, @ Sticker- the PO put that on there and I have left it. My son just began riding, so he is not ready for my VFR. We did go look at bikes & gear today and he was drooling over the CBR500 for his next ride

Yup, now all he talks about is that he wants to upgrade from his Ninja 250 to a 600. He had a little boo boo on his Ninja coming out of his school parking lot. He hit some gravel and dirt, wobbled and went down. They are building a new hospital right across the street from his school. The 2 weeks it took to get the parts and have his Ninja fixed. I let him ride my bike to school and work. First thing he said after he got his bike back was " Geez dad my ninja is so slow compared to your VFR" Maybe he will get a 600 someday, but I think he needs a lot more riding hours logged before I let him do that. Despite the fact he is almost 18.

Mine is itching to start riding. He has a 1982 CB750C that will require some work before it is road worthy so I am going to let him learn on my NT650GT. We are trying to get him in beginners rider safety class this month.

Dad started me on a FT500 Ascot, graduated me to a Hawk GT the next year. Such a fantastic bike, and a great following over at hawkgtforum.com (I think Hatchet is over there too?). Still have the Hawk 15 years later.

A high school buddy had a CB-1. Also a fantastic bike, and it makes a great pairing with a Hawk for father/son adventures. What teenager wouldn't want a 14k rpm naked bike?

I would love to get my hands on a nice CB-1, they were more popular in Asia and Europe than here. Like you said, 14,000 rpm and gear drive cams, whats not to like. I had the misfortune of owning a Hawk NT650 for a short time and was happy to un-load it on Ebay, supposedly the fellow in Brooklyn NY loves it!! :loco: My example was a decently clean bike with a two-bros full system etc. I was never happy with the performance and really needed a parts bike to sort it.

I would still put my old race ex500 or my current commuter bike against that 3-valve cruiser style motor any day. Fit and finish were second to none, but the performance for me at least was lack luster.

Rubber side down, shiny side up.

Wow. great you guys can do that with your kids. My dad used to ride but no interest now. I have two girls. Maybe one will be interested. Hopefully would not get vetoed by power of mom.

    EX-500 is a great starter/upgrade from a 250... just make sure to call it a Ninja 500R :)

He is pretty much set on a supersport 600, but he'll get what I let him get even if he is 18 or 19 when he is ready to ride. not that I'm a control freak. just a trying to keep him alive freak :)

I don't blame you for trying to tame his desire for a supersport...!

I went for a spin with my dad shortly after getting my first bike, a 3rd gen' 750. We swapped for the ride back and I rode his Varadero (not sure if that's the name it's sold under in the states? an XL1000v). I don't think I'd have trusted anyone else on my bike, Even though it was scruffy and worth a fraction of what his was. I was kinda surprised at the time that he trusted me with his bloody great lump of Honda. It was swifter than I expected given how much they weigh...

He was quite impressed with my battered old VFR and talked about getting one himself. I didn't know at the time of buying, but he'd owned a VF750f when I was born, and produced a photo of me as a little 'un perched on the fuel tank (stationary). A really beautiful machine!
