Look what I picked up. It's a 95 Yamaha XJ600 Seca II with a 600 inline 4. It's a beater bike but is mostly in tact. Only missing the airbox and a few plastics fasteners. The fork seals are shot to he11. The frame and plastic has a bad rattle can job and plastic is cracked in 4 or 5 places. The inside of the tank looks bad. Not a lot of rust but looks like someone did a bad cream job on it. It looks like there is a sheet of dirty paper in it??? Anybody know anything about sealing a tank? could it be patch material or something else? Really looks like almost an entire sheet of copy paper flopping around in there. I'm going to try to clean it with soapy water then CLR cleaner. Then I'll rinse it really well and let it dry. Put some gas in and WHAM! an instant Mad Max bike. When I fire it up I'm gonna ring its neck.
They had a class for racing them back in the day. There was a porno actress named Seca too. Would rather watch one of her movies than ride the bike, would ride her too. :loco: There is a product called Kreem that you could use on your tank, three stage process. I am not a big fan of the stuff, but it works. If it were me, I would try to get a non-rusted oot tank for your new scooter.
You would not want to give up the airbox from it would you? It had a Kreem job done on it already. I'm fishing sheets of the stuff out of it. Looks like it started peeling. I'm just going to wash it out best I can and get it running. Then Im going to beat the crap our of it.
C'mon, ridevfr, you're much too smart to recommend that lousy, old-fashoned Kreem dreck ! Modern coatings like POR or Caswell sealants are far less likely to ever peel off. :livid: KIzer: google "cleaning rusty fuel tanks" or similar. Unless tank is rust-free and clean (flushed out) grit will migrate into the carbs and cause problems. That SECA is a good, simple, reliable, easy-going bike.
I'm not spending any money on it. If I get it running I'm going to ride it like a farm bike on back roads with no tags. I have my VFR and GS500F for every day riding. Never know, this yamaha looks like it has a lot of fresh service on the motor. It just has a lot of crappy cosmetic stuff that it needs.
^Ok Ice-Hunchin, you got me! We did a few Kreem coatings for custamers bikes in the past just to get them "oot" with a healthy kick in the arse, if they came back down the road, it was recomended that they get a new petrol tank :loco: He sed, he did'nt wana get a new tank, he could do the anode/cathode thing to get rid of the rust too, or he could go to a radiator shoppe and have them to a number on the inside of the tank. Like I said, if it was mine, I would pop for a new/used/Ebay tank, thats what I did with my gen3 bike. Anyway, hope is all gud in Barf-ah-Low and stay kewel.
I got a couple sheets of Kareem as big as my hand you can have. I ice fished them out of my tank.....works really well. Its so f-ing cold shift keeps freezing i n the tank when I try to clean it. I have snow on my garage floor. Blowing in under the door.
Spun the motor today and worked on cleaning the tank with BB's, vinegar, and coke. Need to rig a fuel supply and try to fire it up.
