Hey everybody! I just got home with an Italian red 2005 vfr 800 ABS with 25k miles. I got it for about $3500 which I thought was a pretty good deal. As far as mods go, it has a sargent seat, zero gravity tinted windscreen, two brothers slips ons, and a power commander 3. It has some minor scuffs on one side where it was supposedly dropped in a parking lot.

I just gave it a test ride in the freezing cold over here in Maryland and it seems to ride fine from what my numb body could tell. The only thing is when the vtec kicks in. I heard that the pre 2006 models had a rough transition, but damn it feels almost like I'm downshifting but its really rough and abrupt. That is the only issue I've come across so far though. I'll have to test ride it again more thoroughly once it warms up. I'm hoping I'll be able to smooth out the vtech transition with the power commander too.

Congrats, I have a 05 also, mine has 70k miles. Corbin seat, Madstad windshield and standard bars I installed myself. I'm older than dirt and need to sit a little more upright. Super bike and yes, the vtec can be rough but as you get used to it you'll find it is fun.

    Congrats!

I actually picked up a Black 2002 VFR800 (ODO @ 29,900km's / 18,500 miles) on Saturday myself and dropped it at the dealer for a safety inspection. As soon as that's complete, its coming home to my heated workshop for some touring / cold weather mods. Now ... if only we could get rid of these extremely cold temps and snow up here in the Great White North.

I have a buddy who is finishing his PhD in Baltimore and helps teach courses at the University. :)

Haha yea, I'm probably going to have to sit on it for awhile and add some mods of my own while the weather warms up. it was something like 0 degrees F outside yesterday when I test road it and I had to pull over twice to wipe the fog off my visor. I don't think ill be doing that again anytime soon.

Honda adjusted the vtec on the 2006 model to make it less abrupt... Congrats by the way

Two questions: How warm was the engine when you noticed the abrupt TVEC transition? Does the bike have a custom map from a dynotuner?

i had the bike warming up for awhile, had it running for about 10 minutes or so before I ran it but i didn't check the temperature. I'm not sure if it has had a dynotune or not, but it does have a dynotune sticker on the frame, so he probably did have one done. I'll have to message him tomorrow. do you think it could have been tuned that way?

My experience is that the VTEC transition when the bike is running cool (like under 160 F) is abrupt. My experience is also that a dyonotune that smooths the transition does wonders. Dynotunes are fairly cheap. VMMV.

Welcome and congrats on the new ride.

Just a heads up - the 2002 to 2005 had a wiring harness recall issued for something up front. You can find our if this has been done by running the VIN through any Honda dealer, or calling Honda directly. Rumor has it that sometimes they would be a hole punch of similar in the VIN tag on the bike if it was done, but can't hurt to call anyway.

So since we are talking about the white stuff, here is a picture of my VFR, tucked away inside the shed I built for it a few months ago. That shed is 16 feet long with 8 foot walls. It currently has something like 4.5 feet of snow on the roof!
Yah we've been hit hard out here this year. The banks beside my driveway are nearly 7 feet high and another foot is coming tomorrow. I guess I had better shovel the roof eh.

    Calise Tabarnak!

I saw a vid somewhere of a neat shovel like device that removes snow from the roof without getting up there and shovelling. It just slides under the snow, has two sides that cuts the edges, and the snow just slides down a piece of felxible plastic, similar to the kids sliding plastic mats, onto the ground below. I will see if I can find it and post it up.

Holy crap, jethro. I knew you guys were getting hit hard this winter, but I didn't realize it was that bad.

Not a lot of snow here on the prairies, but it's cold enough to freeze a polar bears balls off here. -34C with the windchill.

Picked up my bike from the dealer safety inspection today. :)

My apologies to the OP! Didn't mean to jack your thread.

Nice 05, I bet you can't wait for April!

Haha no issues here. I'm always up for conversation. I don't have quite as much snow over here as you do, but I think the bike still still be off the road for awhile. Oh well, more time for mods!
