What's with this paint scheme? I don't remember seeing it before.
Edit: Tank and seat are different too?

Google image search turns up a few bikes with the same paint scheme, minus the HRC stickers. Speaking of.....just what makes this particular example an HRC bike other than the stickers? I would bet nothing.

The image search also brings up the same paint scheme pattern but with the red and blue switched.

Just found this page, check out the ads from 1985...that's the stock paint scheme alrighty.

    Ah so

Need to finish mine. Had lots of time during the recession to start a frame up resto. brought the engine home is pieces Saturday and put it on my desk. Don't always feel like driving into work to work on things.

That 700 is only 20 miles away. I'm going to look at it.

If it's close to you go look at it...you just said you would like an example with original paint. I think $2,500 is too much....but at the same time it's not. What I mean is that IMHO the first gens don't bring the money that they should considering what they are. These bike are well worth 3-4K easy for what they are. The original and first true production sport bike. But, because of the cam issues they haven't become collectible....yet. I bet they will increase in value in the coming years. But at the same time I'm not going to stop riding and using mine just because they "may" become collectible.

So is $2,500 too much money for a bike that you can go out and have a blast with? I don't think so.

Maybe they will increase in value to the point that spending the money on having the cams/followers fixed for good (mega cycle type re-weld) will be justifiable. Maybe not. I'm really considering having mine done if/when the time comes even if the value doesn't justify the price. It's just a damn fun bike to ride, rode mine 50 miles today and had a blast! Having a spare set of cam chain tensioners tucked away wouldn't be a bad idea either. Maybe 2 sets if you really like the bike and want to ride the mess outta it!

Other than that what problems do they have?

Google image search "1985 VF700F", on my results the first two pics are the same scheme with the red/blue switched, and the third pic is the same as in the craigslist ad you linked to.

    I see it now.

My problem is my heart beats a little faster when I see one in good shape. The came out when I was in my early twenties. Couldn't afford one at the time. Might as well have two. :witless:

Ya, I was in kindergarten and first grade when these were new. I wanted one then but my parents wouldn't let me get it, they bought me some transformer toys instead. Oh well.

Offer $2,500 for mine and I'll consider it....nah. I know of one in my area that was for sale....I spoke with him about it and he told me to keep his # incase I run across anyone interested. It's exactly like mine. I know it's a LONG ways from you but something to keep in mind. He will take less than the listed price on the one you're about to go see. But with shipping may break even. I can go do a thorough inspection of it if you're really interested/serious. (even including pulling at least the rear valve cover, if he'll let me)

I don't really remember if the paint was in mint condition, I think it's good, but I'll have to go see it again to be sure. If he still has it, but I do still have his # so I can at least call and ask.

Crazy stuff isn't it, you would struggle to find a shit Indian Enfield that will probably blow up the first time you ride it for $2500 and here you have these brilliant machines and everybody thinks they are overpriced

Looked at it a couple of hours ago. Not quite as sweet in person. Still I'd love to have it but I also love the bike I have. No need for another old bike to wrench on.
