So I just cleaned my carbs on my 3rd gen VFR and after putting it all back together and starting it up I noticed fuel is dripping out of #39 on the diagram below. It's dripping / pouring out enough that it's leaving a nice pool on the garage floor. What the heck does this mean?

If carbs weren't leaking b4 it means you did somethin wrong, dunnit ?? :numbness: Second thing wrong was not testing carb assembly for leaks b4 installing it. :sorrow: Then removing again to fix another problem.

Your symptoms are ez to id: your float bowls are overflowing through #39 vent due to leaky needles or grossly misadjusted needles on one or more carbs. If you remove air filter you should be able to see raw fuel dripping down in one or more carbs from under the slide needle.

I wondered if it might be something with the float needle valves. I didn't know/think it was possible to check for leaks without having the tank and everything hooked back up. How do I go about doing that?

Put the carbs on the bench and hook a fuel bottle up to them, fuel bottle higher than the carbs, gravity will do the rest

Update: I took the carbs apart and one of the float needles was scratched up. It looked like it had some material stuck to it but I was unable to clean it off after much effort. At any rate, the needle was affected enough that it prevented it from moving into and out of the needle valve smoothly. I recognized this when I cleaned the carbs but it didn't seem to be affecting operation of the float enough to cause me concern. Obviously I was wrong. I ordered a new seat and needle (and washer and filter thing) and installed it. It is now running well.

Another quick question. What is the proper default pilot screw setting? I set all the carbs to 2.5 turns and overall it seems to be running well. I understand a carb sync is probably necessary but is 2.5 turns a good place to start?
