Vintage Motorcycle Show, Frost Park , Dania Fl

Great show, even more bikes than last time. Weather was perfect, sunny 72 degrees.

 

There are some really nice looking older bikes.

 

Nice XS650

 

There were probably 15-20 very nice XS 650's there.

 

Forgot to say that the pink thing is a GSXR that is trying to break the Texas Mile. 800HP, 2 giant turbos. They are close to the 300mph mark. Had to put lead ballast in the front and rear and the guy who pilots it is big. They change the chain every 4 passes. The trouble is keeping traction, said it will stand up changing into 6th gear or just start smoking the tire at over 260 mph. Nuts.

 

What a great way to spend a Saturday.
Great crowd, super weather and a kazillion cool bikes.
The "field meet" is fun to watch and Billy Joel usually shows up. (I had to leave early so I'm not sure if he made it this year)
I just can't imagine being in a place where the "Vibe" could be any better!

Yeah Billy that pink thing is something else. The guy who built it is a south fl local guy. Dont know him but I have heard of his turbo work. If he beats the Texas mile which I think is now around 310 he will get a lot more buniness. He cranked it up, the sound from the turbos is nuts. Small animals could get sucked into it.

 

Cool you were ther Shamrock. RideVFR was there too but we missed meeting up. The skills competition was fun. Did you see the guy on the Kawi H2 almost lose it when he spun around? Thought he was going to end up in the audience. The parking lot was almost as cool with all the different bikes.
On the way out there was a bit of stop and go and there were 4 Harley dudes in front of me. I asked my girlfriend if she had ever seen the Harley duck walk. I pointed at the Harley's just as all 4 duck walked to a stop. She laughed as she watched them do this probably a dozen times.

I liked Shamrock's observation about the vibes. IMO, they are better at bike shows than car shows.

Nice example of that Vincent Black Prince.. Ain't seen one of those for a long time. A really long time. Last made if memory serves in 1955.

Yeah, running into friends is a big part of the whole thing. I'm an "old fart" and the crowd tends to be a bit older. That seems to give the day a slower pace. The down side is that there are fewer of the local South Florida Hotties to stare at!
Oh well the mixture of vintage Scooters, Mopeds and classic Bicycles was a pleasant diversion.

 

I wanted to see the 2 engine mini bike use his wheelie bars. There were some crazy machines there. Did you look at all the parts guys stuff near the fence? I can't even imaging what their garages look like.

 

The Boss Hoss ain't got nothing on that orange bike.. A Ford V8 60 maybe? There were "rod" parts for those made way way back. They used to run them in midgets and in boats.

I had a Cushman. Everyone should be happy I am still here. My mom didn't think I was going to make it.

Short story: I'm in a vintage club. (VME/Seattle) Our Italian bike dudes got invited to show some of their iron by an Italian car owners group. Our guys showed with aboot 20-25 really nice bikes. Bevel drive Ducs, several MVs ect. The car dudes we decided were handicapped and were not able to walk over and look at the bikes.. We looked at the cars and tried to make conversation. No capice or the local equivalent from the car dudes.. A little irony here. Some of the members of my club not only have nice bikes but nice cars and other stuff like income from selling their software to Microsoft and could probably buy not only the cars (maybe) but the ground they were sitting on.

We are nice guys though and looked forward to the same event a year hence. One year give or take later we got invited again. This time some of the same bikes and cars too. I got with a chum who is in real life a Hydrologist and was showing three of his pristine Ducs. I brought along an inspection mirror with a long handle and he brought a clipboard and we walked around the cars taking notes. The only car we didn't "inspect" was Pete Lovely's 1955 Ferrari Testa Rossa. One of the guys in my club works for Pete maintaining his racing iron and other fun stuff.

Like they say in Italy, " Pasta is best served on a cold plate" .

 

Years ago I went to the Daytona Bike Week Swap Meet with a "collector" and it is stunning to see all that stuff but until you mentioned it I never thought about their garages. I'm convinced these swap meets are just like watching porn to some of these guys and I think that's a good thing.
The scary thing is the fact that they seem to know exactly what they have and what it goes to.

BadBilly is correct on the Ford V8 60 bike. It was very well done and he even used it in the Field Meet.

 

It is amazing how they know what they have and where its located in the piles of parts. Some of those parts are well over 50 years old.

I saw him trying to pilot that V8 in the field games. I wonder how much that bike weighed.

Saw a club ride on Boss Hoss's in Wyoming at the Cowboy bar a long time ago, they were all backed up in front of the bar. Must have been at least 20 of them. Rev one up and watch the torque move the bike to the side.

 

Hey Gator I see you own an RD350. You still have it? Ride it?
Back in the late seventies I built a 400 but sold it a few years ago to a guy in Michigan.

Nice RD! Seat, tail, shield, bars! Did you paint it too? What chambers are on it. I had a 75 350 in the late 70's, it was a blast. I must have blew it up 4 times. I think it was on its 5 th bore before it had to be resleaved. Had Bassani's on it and all I did was jet it, ran great. A few years later I got a KZ 1000 with Kerker headers. Still love that sound. There were a few that we're at the show and someone rode one there, heard it far away with the Kerker header. I still have a 75 RD, only has 5k on it. I try to ride it to work once a month and take her for a ride every week close to home. It has crappy DG chambers on it. They sound great but are nortorious for being very lousy on the RD. they run much better with stock pipes. I need to put some Spec 2,s on her. Or look for some nice old ones.
