I am curious about what gas tanks would fit my 1983 VF750F. Would a tank from a 1984/5 500 fit? Seems to be more parts out there for miniceptors (with all do respect) than for this year/make. Anyone know about the size of early 1000's also?

Any VF750F or VF700F tank will fit. The 500 tanks are completely differenct.

The VF1000 tanks will fit but are shaped a little differently. It would take a really good eye to notice though.

Do you mean 85-85 1000s? And do you mean only the VF1000F and not R's? I just want to know what my options are. Thanks in advance.

The F and R both mount the same and should fit the VF750's. I've not tried this, but the frames are interchangeable so it stands to reason the that tanks should swap over. The R tanks will be super expensive so you probably won't have much luck there. The 84 VF1000F and 84-85 VF700's are probably going to be your best bet.

the 1kF and 1kR tank do not really interchange all that well. I have both, and the 1kF tank will not fit the 1kR without beating the bottom on the 1kF tank. It ends up sitting about and inch and a half above the front mount. The 1kF tank also has two large tabs that connect to the front fairing that the 700/750 does not have.

I took it that this guy was having difficulty finding a tank and wanted to install something just to get his bike going. You are correct that the F tanks would not look exactly the same. I've found the F and R tanks to interchange perfectly (besides the aforementioned shape), I can't see any reason why you had trouble. Were they both 48 state models?

No, the 1000R is a Cali model. The 1000F is a Canadian model.
