Went to the show on Saturday. Not as big as I thought it would be but still lots of cool bikes. No Apes or MV's. Some crazy custom built choppers, the one I liked the most had a Kawi H2 triple 2 stroke in it with a sick custom built set of chromed chambers. Really who would put a giant chain saw in a chopper?
The ZX 10 is a very nice bike in person and I imagine a beast at the track. I have rode a friends Concourse 14 and I really like it a lot as a bad ass sport touring bike. The new Kawi H2 is a very strange looking bike, if you had even a slow low side it would cost a bunch with all the crap on it. 300hp is cool though.

It's a Travertson. It has a front swing arm and a ridiculously long wheel base, something like 80".

Not according to the local harleydoods. They also deny that HD made golf carts. Pointing oot that golf is a lifestyle falls on deaf ears..;)

I lived through the 70's and the great AMF debacle. They tried hard to kill HD. The HD in those days of such poor quality as to really be embarrassing. It took old Ronnie Reagan to impose an import tax of something near 50% on Japanese bikes of 700cc or more to savw thwm. That and AMF sold the company.

I will most definitely be at Frost Park for the vintage show. If I can get the time I'm thinking about bringing my 75 RD 350. My neighbor has a 2 of them, one stock and one a screamer, he's thinking about bringing them and a Honda trail 70. Always an excellent show.

HDs were not all that great pre-AMF. This excludes the racebikes. Just like today, factory racebikes are not cranked out on the same assembly lines as the streetbikes.

Racebikes and the fast guys who can ride them are sales tools. Nothin new there. HD has been doing this for 100 years. Same with bikes from most other countries.

Before "specialization" many HD parts were interchangeable from year to year. Same deal on bikes from other places.

I had a Gold Star track bike that had a head casting that was WWII in design allowing for a centrally located sparkplug coupled with a secondary ignition system in case one crapped out on the then courier and general usage bikes.
