I did it with BMW racks from an airhead model. Adapted with stainless steel 1/8x1" strapping and a few nuts and bolts. Bolts on and off. Bags mount with key and lock with same key.

WOrks fine for me. Pics in my gallery

This is my first post to this discussion group, while I had different bikes over the years, on and off, since age 21, when I bought an 85 cc , 1968 Kawasaki for $300 Can. over 40 years ago...

I am using the same Givi top case as duccmann for my vfr800 2002 I just bought in November 2014( and useed that top case for my previous bike, a BMW F800R , 2011) - that top case contains 2 full face helmets and you can add a back rest. I also ordered the side case mounts and E22 hard saddle bags. The nice thing about the Givi v47 monokey in the photo above, is that I can put in a briefcase and then take the briefcase out and put my helmet in when I arrive at work.
I also used a similar givi case for my VFR800 2000 some years ago. A very handy case.
I did use the KRAUSER soft saddle bags on a previous honda 250 and then on the BMW 800 F800R - but the krauser attachment system is quite expensive and I did not re-order it for the VFR.
Soft saddle bags are nice, but they do take in some water, likely from the zippers, no matter how much waterproofing cans I spray on them.

I also cancelled an order for the sw-motech saddle bag harness, because its way more expensive and I simply wanted to use givi side cases. More so , the givi side case attachment is compatible with the givi top case attachment.

All in all, givi cases are often easily transferable to another bike, without spending a fortune on new attachment hardware.

In swapping my 2011 BMW F800R for the VFR800 2002 )( the VFR has less than 3,000 mile on it...) at the motorcycle store I go to in Montreal, I finally realized that they mostly strip the bike of accessories so you can start all over again and spend money in the store re-fitting the bike.

So, the GIVI cases, in my opinion, are excellent quality and allows more flexibility when you change your ride and/or want to sell the cases.

Also, if you decide to ad running/brake and turn signals , there's a company called admorelights.com and was told about them from about 4 BMW800 riders at work, the the guality of there harness are superior to Givi's. Great guys and excellent service. Just a thought

Krauser bags (hardcase) have been around for years. There are several versions. Some that come from the 60's and 70's tend to pop open sometimes. The mounting racks are high quality and actually look less like transformers than some of the other hardware on the market.

There are several versions of the Krauser bags. They fit the standard racks.

They come in a variety of colors (black) Sorry bout that! Ez to paint..

If anyone fits a set of these Krausers to a bike, I suggest reading the advice given by both BMW and Mike Krauser about riding at speed with the bags attached.

Ouf ! http://admorelighting.com/store/ nice lights but very expensive. They do have very very nice stuff tough.

I got some lights from eBay named : 2 x 7" White COB Car Daytime Running Light DRL Daylight Kit 12V DC
I put those on the lower part of the headlights on my car but was thinking of using a pair on my bike or as top case inside lights. They really draw little or no current and dirt cheap.
you can hook them up with: LED Daytime Running Light DRL Relay Harness Auto On Off Controller, Smart Reduce

again on Ebay I found: Flexible RGB Multi Color SMD 5050 LED Light Strip x12 For Honda Motorcycles
and : Honda LED Flasher Relay - VFR 800 VFR800 INTERCEPTOR LED Flash Rate Fix - 4 Pin

Ebay has also kits to enhance the lighting : RED LIGHTS HONDA VFR800 VFR-800 INTERCEPTER VFR800FI - for $16.05 !

Here its winter and my bike is in semi cold storage - come the spring I would like to try some of those lights for the top case or elsewhere - the fun never stops :)

I had the admore lighting set up in the factory hard bags and top box on my 07 VFR800 and they were superb. Quite easy to install, though drilling holes in the body work, hard bags and top box is always one of those "here we go" moments, no matter how many times you do it. The quality and fitment of the kit was great and the wiring connections for removing the bags worked flawlessly. Admore was also excellent to deal with. I bought my kit from them when they were just working up the setup for the VFR800 bikes and I couldn't have had a more helpful outfit to buy from. The added running and brake lights at the rear of the bike really increased visibility, especially at night. I feel they were well worth the cost.
