Looks like something I'd like to try someday. I am an avid motocrosser with 36 years of dirt experience, but here in CNY, we just don't have that kind of terrain available for that type of riding. I know you still have the VFR, but are your tastes changing? Are you spending more time on the GS?

Believe it or not, it was colder going through Old Topanga Canyon (27F) one winter! Although I do believe camping out in DV would trump the temporary temperature drop in the canyon! Glad you had a good time Long, hoping to see more photos and report.

My love for the VFR will never change. I just love to explore new ground and go where other bike cannot. If you have a chance to visit South Cal I would love to take you there.

That looks like an awesome time. Something I could see myself doing at some point in my life. Nice that you have it at your backdoor.

Careful ... I might take you up on that :)

That is a great to hear. I've busted both ankles in the past due to MX injuries and even to this day, my right ankle can lock up on the VFR where I can't use the rear brake - which is one reason why I like the linked braking. Anyhow, good thing the shoulder won't be holding you back.

    Day 2

    Sorry for the delay
It was freaking freezing during the night, the temperature plunged to the low 30. My face were cold and my nose running like a little stream. I wasn’t sleep well at all, I was toste and turn all night trying to find a confy spot to catch some more sleep. I finally get up at six and hit the shower and refrher myself. I lid up a little fire by our tent and start make some coffee. Nothing better then a hot cup of Joe around the fire early in the morning watching the sun rise.
When we roll in the camp I spot a tiger park next to our site I when over to check it out and this is what I saw…….Holly Batman this guy must be nuts to ride into Death Valley with a worn out tire.

As I find out the bike belong to one of the israli rider and as soon as the sun up they are busy dismount the wheel and it took six of us to break the beat, put the new tire in is easy only took few minutes to mount.

All done with the tire, I suit up and start our ride for the day.
On our way to Titus Canyon we stop by our friend camping spot to check on them . Find out his girl friend got blow off the road yesterday and broke her wrist and the bike were toast with broken frame and crack plastics….She is all bang up but with quality gears and helmet helped reduce major damaged. She is hurt but in good spirit and refuse not to cancel the trip. After chatting with the two friends we excuse ourself and head out to continue with our plan. The ride went well without any trouble
I pretty much just ride, take pictures and filming with my gopro. The senery is just amazing. My pictures won’t do any justice. You have to be there to appreciate the beauty of mother nature has provided to us.

Long, my hat is off to you. You ride a lot and you use your Adventure Bike for what it's meant for. I enjoyed the ride report and the pictures. I need to learn how to take pictures on the fly like you do. Thanks for sharing.

Death Valley in winter is COLD! It's colder there than towards the coast. I remember riding to Death Valley in late December many years ago. It was 25 in Baker and Shoshone. That was the high. I got sick. I was literally shivering. Didn't matter how many layers I had either. I remember meeting a guy there on a naked cruiser. He was in bad shape from the cold too! LOL!
