The alternative is that the dealer will allow you $99.95 trade in on a new bike.

They would not be that generous with a trade in in Oz.

My son has a POS Pontiac Firebird with a chipped key. The key actually lost the ability to be recognized by the system and as such required a new key and a system reset. This was a very expensive, dealer only, service on a car with no real value. There had to be another way. The key contains a resistor. The system checks the resistance value and if it recognizes that value the key will start the car. After a little Internet surfing we found the fix. We made a string of resistors with the same value as the key and hard wired them in the system. Now the system always sees the correct value and the car always starts.
