    First ticket?

Ask for Deferred adjudication, take DDC, get insurance discount, and no points.

Call the court now and ask for Deferred Adjudication and start the process and be done and bring proof to court.

At least that's how it should go.

    lmao. Funny comeback.
To keep on topic, yes, pay the fine. If you go see the judge and explain any hardships, more than likely you'll be granted a payment plan.

with the exception of his consistant insults to law enforcement and judges.......red99rc46 advice is pretty close to spot on. But, dont assume that all law enforcement are dumb and need dictionaries. Be respectful and polite. That always works best when i pull someone over and when in court.

Randy is also very correct. Some courts will offer up payments if needed or a reduction to a lesser ticket.

My wife just opened her mail to find a speeding ticket of 49 in a 25 from a speed camera. No fighting this one. This is from the famous Linndale Village that had an Ohio law made so they couldn't ticket on the main highway Rt71. They had no way to get to it from their little 20 block square village without going in to neighboring villages. They had stopped a senator and pissed him off. Law got change back years later.

So take your lumps, your not alone. After you get a dozen or so it doesn't faze you much. ;)

I've gotten 2 speeding tickets over the last 50 years of motorcycling. Been stopped quite a few times, but luck (and my charming behavior) have gotten me out of a lot of them. Watching where you speed makes a big difference in whether you get caught, and whether you get a ticket if you do get caught. Speed in a school zone, and you're pretty much guaranteed a citation, out on the open highway and moderate traffic, maybe not so much.

But officer, I was only going one way!

I have and idea for the pin and patch dudes and way for this site to make some pesos. A set of pins and patches stating " I got a ticket for 140 in a school zone in _________. The pins don't need to be fancy cloisonné and the patches can be iron on.

The cool factor is way up there. Do this before they start selling these at the Rock Store or Harley botiques.

Staying on target sort of, young dude with ticket can go this route if under 18.

My guess is that the dude had to sell the Harley and the truck to pay the fine and the lawyer. Do you recall the specific section of the vehicle code that applies?

Interesting reading, afraid I can't really offer much advice being on the other side of the world. Forgive me for making a few assumptions. Firstly, the op is under 18? Secondly, he was riding a VFR? In SA you can't ride anything bigger than a 125 until you are 18. Fortunately we don't lose licence points ( they are supposed to be bringing that in sometime) and "spot fines" are pretty common. If it does get written up though we are told how much the fine is on the ticket. Good luck.

This particular citation, if the OP is telling the whole story, was issued by the California Highway Patrol. The statute is contained in the California Vehicle Code.

Each state has it's own vehicle code and there are differences from state to state and municipality to municipality.

Courts vary too. There is Traffic Court where traffic matters are the menu of the day. There are Magistrate Courts that are not a formal as regular courts where one can explain one's actions to sitting judge in an informal setting. There are half a dozen ways to pay the fine. There are lawyers who do nothing but handle traffic offences.

None of the above are places to pull off some slick BS story or anecdote. The folks in court are like car and bike dealerships in that they do this stuff on a very regular basis and you/we are on their turf.

Many times regular lawyers become traffic court judges pro-tem. One specialist in traffic only operates out of Seattle on the defense side was a traffic court prosecutor and a judge. This sort of defines who one might want in their foxhole.

These courts are open to the public here. Courts are there for a reason as are the judges. Guessing about how a court works is not real smart unless ya got more pesos to spend than most of us. Jumping all badass in court is even less smart.

On item missed is that a citation is only a piece of paper. We cannot be prosecuted by a piece of paper. OTOH if the issuing officer does not show up in court at the appointed time and date, ya walk.

If you are under 18 and got a speed ticket
The Judge will dismis the ticket but will take your license away for 30 days and give you a speech. Ask me how I know

I did mention earlier on that a 17 year old on a VFR with only a few weeks road riding experience was not a good idea
