Bar Riser Blocks aka Handle Adjuster Plate 08R70MJMD10

When I picked up my VFR800FD, I asked the dealer to order a set of the bar riser blocks. $119.95 seemed a bit steep, but I did it anyway.

They came in last week and here are a couple of shots of them.






I am working with a local machine shop to make additional sets and anodize them to match the bronze color, although not too much is visible when seated on the bike...

I am pretty sure I can offer them at about half of what Honda is charging.

Any interest out there?

I just installed mine yesterday. I'm sure you already figured out that they are identical, with no left or right. Should be easy for a machine shop to hammer out a nice pile for not too much money.

 

Right. Just flip it over for the other side. Waiting to see how close the color match is. That is my main concern at this point. I plan to upgrade the bolts to stainless.

My feelings exactly. I have heard from a number of folks that a price point that is near half that for a nicely anodized product with quality hardware would sell like hotcakes in the $70 range. Should have a prototype soon.

Thanks. Yes, not a complicated machining job, but have to take care of the machine shop and the anodizer. The big question in my mind at this point is the anodizing match. Should have a result to show soon.

I would be interested at your projected price point (gen 6). My suggestion is to anodize at a lighter shade (gold?). Id be interested in an install FAQ and video since i'm not a skilled mechanic.

Back in July, I purchased a '14 VFR800D in Pearl White to replace my ailing '98 VFR. I love the new VFR for its light and narrow feel, beautiful styling and nicely integrated bags.




I might be getting old, but the bars felt a bit low. I ordered the Honda accessory handlebar riser blocks P/N 08R70-MJM-D10 for $119.00 and installed them. They really made a big difference, all out of proportion to their .6" height.

The next weekend I took them back off and made a visit to my local suspension/machine shop. We came to an agreement on a price that would allow me to have small runs of high quality 6061 billet aluminum, anodized to a very close bronze match and upgrade the hardware to high-strength stainless, replacing Honda's rust-prone standard steel allen bolts -- and offer them at a little more than half of what Honda was charging.

CAD drawings, changes, approvals, prototypes, test fitting, finishing, final approvals and deposits followed.

After developing the .7" height model, I decided to also commission a run of 1.25" risers. Longer bolts are included, and there are no cable, clutch or brake line issues with the added height. You can also raise the fork tubes .5" in the triple clamps if desired.

Everything is 100% US made and the machining quality is beautiful. Here is an opportunity to improve the ergos on your '14 and later VFR and save significant $$ off of Honda's accessory price.

The kit includes an Instruction Sheet, Stainless Steel Hardware and a Pair of .6" or 1.2" Bronze Anodized 6061 Aluminum Risers. Installation takes about 5 minutes.














The color is not a perfect match for the bronze metallic paint on the bars and triple clamp, but it is pretty close and tougher than the paint. From the saddle, almost none of the risers are visible.

Do you do the 1.25" to fit 2009 model?

 

At this point I am only producing risers for the '14+ VFR. One zero cost strategy for the 2002-2009 VFR800 is to raise the fork tubes in the triple clamps a bit, then slide the bars up as much as possible. This effectively raises the bars for the rider at no cost. It does leave a visual gap between the triple clamp and the bar clamp, but there is no structural issue.

Thanks for that,i've already done that slightly.

 

Keep in mind, doing that also lowers the front of the bike which can change steering geometry and weight balance.

 

Yes realised that but have lust racing lowering links on the back.

 

I too took the plunge early on with Honda's $120 0.6" risers and after 1500 miles with them, I am in full agreement with MotoPumps. 0.6" isn't enough rise. So I just ordered a set of his finest kind 1.25" Risers off eBay. Thanks in advance MotoPumps!
