If you plan on carrying a second helmet without using luggage, how do you secure it to the bike?

+1....That's exactly how I do it. I had a friend who would just use the factory helmet lock and leave it one the side of the bike, but his bike had several marks/scratches where the helmet would rub.

Cargo net for the 2nd helmet when riding & helmet lock when parked. I usually carry my helmet with me & don't take on any passengers...

I use a bungee buddy, (stupid name, I know) its a Chase Harper thing that is contained in its own bag, which you can un-zip and deploy a cargo net along with four hooks attached to bungees, hence the name, "bungee-buddy." :loco: I know but wtf, it works, and I have used it for 20+ without a hitch.

Good way to attach a brain bucket to a bike is with kryptonite lock through the upper tripple tree and run it through the chin bar of the helmet. It accomplishes two things, protect your skid lid from pilfering by someone with a razor blade and prevents scum from monkeying around with your steering lock. Cheers
